VNPost urged to develop into a socio-economic and cultural institution

NDO – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has asked the Vietnam Post Corporation (VNPost) to build on the 70-year tradition of the postal sector to develop itself into a significant socio-economic and cultural institution, not only as an economic group specialised in providing postal services, thereby joining hands with the Party and State in order to implement the renewal process.

The deputy PM made the remark at a ceremony held in Hanoi on June 16 to mark the 10th founding anniversary of the VNPost (June 15, 2007-2017).

He applauded the efforts made by VNPost’s officials and staff over the past decade, noting that the corporation has been renovated comprehensively and has achieved radical development steps.

In addition to operating in the postal industry, VNPost has also contributed to boosting socio-economic development, providing public services in various fields and participated in administrative reforms, thus, step by step, becoming an extended arm connecting the administrative system and the people, he added.

Deputy PM Dam said he believed that by actively participating in administrative reforms and collaborating with the Vietnam Social Security, the tax industry and the labour, invalid and social affair sector, the postal industry will very much become the presence of the Party and State in every corner of the country, from mountainous areas to remote, isolated and island regions.

At the ceremony, Politburo member, Truong Thi Mai, who heads the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation, presented the Labour Order, third class, to the VNPost in recognition of its significant achievements over the past few years.

On June 1, 2007, the Prime Minister approved the project to establish the Vietnam Post Corporation, and a fortnight later, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications (now the Minister of Information and Communications) issued Decision No. 16/2007/QD-BBCVT on the official establishment of the VNPost.

In its development strategy until 2020, VNPost has set a goal of continuously facilitating comprehensive reforms whilst developing its three business pillars, including postal delivery, postal finance and media distribution, as well as becoming a leading national postal business in Southeast Asia. The corporation is striving to achieve VND21 trillion in revenues by 2020, with an annual growth rate of 20%.
