Army well implements defense external service in H1

Gen. Vinh, who is a member of the Party Central Committee, permanent member of the Central Military Commission and Deputy Minister of National Defense, made that commend while chairing a conference to review the service implementation in the first six months of this year, held on July 27 at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense (MND).

The conference assessed that despites complicated developments and increasing unstable situations, tense disputes and conflicts in the region and the world, terrorism- a threat to the world’s security, and globally non-traditional security challenges, the service has been carried out actively, proactively with practical outcomes.

Among achievements, bilateral defense ties between Vietnam and other countries have been developing intensively, actively contributing to enhancing trust and maintaining friendship with Vietnam’s partners and to firmly defending national security and territorial integrity.

Besides, bilateral defense cooperation have concentrated on training and improving professionalism of personnel engaged in United National peacekeeping operations, overcoming war consequences, humanitarian aid and disaster relief, military technical cooperation, maritime security and defense ties and more.

Attentively, due attention has been paid to the defense ties with countries with shared borders and border external affairs are defined as part of the missions of safeguarding the borderline, territorial sovereignty and of strengthening friendship with neighboring countries.

Defense external service has well handled the relationship with powerful countries on the basis of mutual benefits, creating strategic balance status and contributing to strengthening the defense potential.

Furthermore, the defense ties between Vietnam and ASEAN member countries has been reinforced, making important contributions to building trust and gaining support of ASEAN countries for Vietnam’s genuine interests in the East Sea.

Basing on the traditional friendship, Vietnam has maintained its relationship with them to consolidate trust and earn mutually political support.

Notably, Vietnam has actively and responsibly participated in multilateral defense external activities. That has in part improved the status and role of Vietnam and Army in international arena.

To well implement the mission of safeguarding the Fatherland from afar by peaceful means, Gen. Vinh asked agencies and units in the army to further give suggestions to the Party, State and Government on defense-security work to ensure national peace and stability. They were also requested to complete legal documents relating to international integration and defense external affairs with a focus on the completion of the project on international integration on defense by 2020 with a vision to 2030.

In terms of bilateral defense ties, Gen. Vinh suggested relevant agencies and units to boost the implementation of the defense external service in the second half of this year to achieve practical outcomes, perform good relations and defense ties with other countries, balance relationships with powerful countries, organize exchanges of high-ranking MND delegations, promote border external affairs, cooperation with foreign navies as well as cooperation on defense industry and training with foreign countries.

Regarding multilateral defense ties, Gen. Vinh suggested focused cooperation on humanitarian aid and disaster relief, overcoming war aftermaths and UN peacekeeping operations.
