Of the total, 16,600 sets of remains were repatriated from Laos and 15,100 sets brought back from Cambodia. The Party and State’s preferential policies have benefited 95.75 percent of the revolution contributors. NDO – The fifth Vietnam Farm and Food Expo 2017 and Agritech Vietnam 2017 opened in Ho Chi Minh City on July 26, offering an opportunity for agricultural firms to introduce and promote their products and form production-supply chains. The events are considered as a venue for both the input and output of Vietnam’s agricultural sector, featuring almost 200 booths of 120 domestic and foreign enterprises. NDO – A conference was held in Hanoi on July 26 to honour people who contributed great service to the nation. The conference, attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, honoured 700 outstanding war veterans, heroic Vietnamese mothers, Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces, ex-youth volunteers, and the relatives of martyrs and revolutionary contributors, representing over 9 million national contributors across the country. The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), Defence Ministry, Ministry of Public Security, Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper and the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee to mark the 70th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers Day (July 27, 1947-2017). According to a report by the MoLISA, over 9 million national contributors have been identified, with more than 1.2 million fallen soldiers, 127,000 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and over 800,000 wounded soldiers. Over the past five year, the relevant agencies, units and organisations have collected 75,000 sets of the remains of Vietnamese martyrs, of which 16,600 were found in Laos and 15,000 in Cambodia. The implementation of policies, towards people who contributed meritorious services to the revolution of all levels and branches, basically met the set target with 95.75% of beneficiaries having enjoyed the preferential policies of the Party and State. The Ministry of Public Security’s Police Investigation Agency on Monday announced they had completed their investigation into the fraud and irresponsible actions related to lending at the Central Sài Gòn branch of Agribank (Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development). Headquarters of the HCM City-based Agribank’s Central Sài Gòn branch.-Photo The police recommended criminal charges against nine suspects, including former branch directors Phạm Thị Mai Toan and Phí Thị Ong, former branch vice director Đỗ Thị Yến, bank officers and directors of companies that falsified documents to get loans from the bank. According to the police investigation, American national Hoàng Tiến Dzũng founded six companies based in HCM City and hired people to work as company directors to borrow money from the bank. The companies reportedly failed to pay the bank interest. Subsequently, in November, 2009, Dzũng falsified a project to get a loan of VNĐ90 billion (US$4 million) to help the six companies pay interest. Fake documents were submitted to the bank, claiming that one of the six companies – Á Châu Company – had earned profits, while in fact, the company had incurred losses. The President made the remark in a piece of writing on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Wounded Soldiers and Martyrs' Day (July 27), in which he praised the great contributions of revolutionary contributors and highlighted the tradition of taking care of those who have made significant contributions to the nation. Policies, regulations and communications campaigns on supporting national revolutionary contributors, both in terms of health care and education, have been implemented effectively throughout the localities, he said. Cemeteries and monuments dedicated to martyrs nationwide have been upgraded and embellished, while the search for, collection and identification of the remains of martyrs has been carried out with the greatest efforts, he added. An art show at the artistic program The program aimed to pay tribute to martyrs, sick and wounded soldiers, Vietnam heroic mothers and those sacrificing their youth for the national independence and freedom on the occasion of the 70th Vietnam Day for Wounded and Fallen Soldiers (July 27, 1947 - 2017). The program also aimed at arousing the national pride and glorious history of the country while strengthening the education of revolutionary ideology among younger generations, reminding today’s generations of the great sacrifices and losses of previous generations in firmly protecting the Fatherland. A recent clinical study demonstrated that the use of maternal nutritional supplements (MNS) and a breastfeeding support programme improves birth outcomes and exclusive breastfeeding rate among Vietnamese mothers. The symposium on the National Guideline on Nutrition for Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers on July 24, 2017 in Hanoi The study on Vietnamese mothers demonstrated the effects of MNS in the pre- and post-natal period on exclusive breastfeeding rates, birth outcomes, and infant growth. The study was conducted by the research team of the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) and global healthcare and research company Abbott between October 2013 and April 2015 and was approved by the National Institute of Nutrition and the Ministry of Health. Moreover, the study has been published on The Journal of Maternal-Fetal & Neonatal Medicine—the official journal of the European Association of Perinatal Medicine and other scientific communities. This is the first study from Vietnam on maternal health nutrition to be published in such an authoritative platform. Participants included 228 Vietnamese mothers aged 20-35 at 26-29 weeks of gestation. The findings showed that women who received the lactation support programme, including consuming two daily servings of maternal milk supplements from pregnancy through breastfeeding experienced various benefits, including healthier birth and growth outcomes and increased breast milk production. NDO – Storm Sonca, the fourth large-scale storm to hit the East Sea this year, made landfall in the northern part of the central province of Quang Tri on July 25 afternoon and downgraded to a tropical depression, according to the latest information from the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF). >>> Localities brace for fourth storm in East Sea As of 4pm on Tuesday, the storm’s centre was located at approximately 17 degrees north latitude and 106.8 degrees east longitude, right on the areas of Quang Binh-Quang Tri provinces, with strongest winds in the eye of the storm recorded at 50-60kph. The State meteorological agency forecast that in the next 12 hours, the typhoon will move mainly to the west-north west at about 15kph and weaken into a tropical depression. By 1am on July 26, the tropical depression will be centred at about 17.5 degrees north latitude and 105.3 degrees east longitude, in Central Laos. The strongest wind of the tropical low pressure will be at about 40-50kph. To deal with the storm, the Central Steering Committee on Disaster Prevention and Control this morning held an online meeting with six central provinces, including Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue, to discuss specific measures.
