Accordingly, the PM requested that the National Committee for Search and Rescue (NCSR), in collaboration with the Transport Ministry, the Nghe An provincial People’s Committee and relevant agencies, continues to deploy vehicles and forces to search for and salvage the remaining crew members of the missing ship, VTB26.

He urged the provincial-level People’s Committees to provide timely support for all families damaged by the storm, to focus on caring for the injured people, while supporting the families with fatalities and helping the people to bring normality back to their lives.

They were also asked to proactively evacuate residents from areas at high risk of flash floods, landslides and inundation, to closely monitor the developments of floods, to proactively operate reservoirs and to take measures to ensure the safety of dikes and dams.

The Government leader also urged for a concentrated effort on fixing any damaged infrastructure facilities, particularly transport, information, power and irrigation works; to take water drainage and anti-flooding measures to protect crops; and mobilise forces to assist the people in repairing houses and cleaning up the environment after the storm.

According to the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre, after landing in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, storm Talas caused heavy rains in the northern coastal regions and provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue, before rapidly weakening into a low pressure zone.

On the afternoon of July 17, the storm crossed the Vietnam-Lao border area and moved toward the Central Lao region. Rain is likely to last for two or three more days in the northern Vietnamese provinces.
