Eventful diplomatic activities took place in June with a string of overseas trips of PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and State President Tran Dai Quang to Japan, Russia, and Belarus, together with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Viet Nam and Cambodia.

Symbol for Viet Nam-Japan strategic partnership development

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his spouse paid an official visit to Japan and participated in the 23rd International Conference on the Future of Asia from June 4-8.

The visit was regarded as a new symbol in the developments in the Viet Nam-Japan strategic partnership in favor of peace and prosperity in Asia, said Ha Noi University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) Vice Director Pham Quang Minh.

This was the third high-ranking visit between the two countries since early 2017 following the previous official tours of Japanese PM  Shinzo Abe this January and the Japanese Imperial Couple from February 28-March 5.

The Vietnamese Government chief was accompanied by the unprecedented large-scale delegation with over 100 Vietnamese businesses.

During the five-day trip, PM Phuc met with Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko and held talk with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe.  

PM Phuc welcomed a new investment wave from Japan in the next couple years, regarding Japanese successful businesses as Viet Nam’s success.

The two PMs witnessed the signing of numerous agreements worth over US$ 22 billion and were unanimous in working closely to mark the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2018.

On this occasion, PM Phuc delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the  23rd International Conference on the Future of Asia in Tokyo on June 5-6.    

New impetus for Viet Nam-Russia ties

State President Tran Dai Quang, his wife and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnamese officials departed Ha Noi on June 26 for an official visit to Russia and Belarus at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

The visits targeted to cement and deepen ties with traditional friends and generate new impetus for in various aspects.

On the threshold of the Russian official tour, State President Quang gave interviews with Russian press agencies namely TASS and Sputnik in which the leader highlighted abundant potentials for the bilateral ties.

Both Viet Nam and Russia agreed to hold Russian Year in Viet Nam and Vietnamese Year in Russia to promote economics-trade, science-technology, culture, education, and strengthen cooperation in new areas namely high-tech and new materials. Both sides vowed to raise two-way trade turnover to US$ 10 billion by 2020.

In addition, the Belarusian trip of Mr. Quang contributed to make a breakthrough in the bilateral ties in which they targeted to raise the two-way trade volume to US$ 500 million in the next couples of year and signed nine cooperative agreements.

Celebrating 50th anniversary of Viet Nam-Cambodia diplomatic ties

On the occasion of the anniversary, high-ranking leaders of Viet Nam and Cambodia exchanged letters of congratulation.

On June 21, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc had a working session with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen in Binh Duong Province to discuss measures to further boost the two countries’ relations.

Cambodian PM Hun Sen, who toured southern localities of Viet Nam to mark his 40 years’ path of seeking support from Viet Nam to salvage Cambodia, wished that the solidarity and friendship between Viet Nam and Cambodia will evergreen and last forever and celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two neighboring countries.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc said this is a chance for Viet Nam and Cambodia to review the history of solidarity between the two nations in hardship time as well as in peace and prosperity.

VN, Czech Republic foster comprehensive ties

The President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman paid an official visit to Viet Nam from June 6-8 at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang.

President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman concluded a three-day State visit to Viet Nam. At the meetings with Vietnamese leaders, both sides spoke highly of the positive growth of the two countries’ traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation over a history of 67 years of official relations.
