HR training cooperation between businesses and educational institutions

HR training cooperation between businesses and educational institutions

Cooperation between enterprises and universities will create a strong connection between training programs and job requirements and help equip students with appropriate knowledge and experience to quickly adapt to a real work environment after graduation.

At the talk show “Strategies for the next generations” in HCMC, experts and representatives of businesses said there is a paradox that fresh graduates find it hard to land a job while enterprises cannot look for right candidates. Many employers prefer candidates with previous experience in the positions which they apply for but a majority of fresh graduates have no experience. Therefore, employers usually try to attract talent from other companies by offering generous wages and opportunities for career advancement. But this is not a stable and long-term human resource (HR) strategy.

Weak linkage

Participants at the talk show said universities and enterprises can hardly talk to each other to find solutions to their problems. Enterprises always complain that most students lack essential skills, so it takes them a long time to retrain newly-recruited staff. However, businesses do not list what qualities and skills are required for newly-graduated students, so universities do not know how to make their training programs fit.

Training innovation

M.S. Nguyen Hoang Dung, Director of Research and Development at the HCMC Institute of Economics and Management, said training programs do not have thorough innovations although efforts have been made. Vivid training methods together with innovated training programs will unleash students’ potential and help them become general-purpose workers in the future.

Enterprises should cooperate with universities to create more practical programs in which students will have more chances to practice and gain experience. Given tough competition, students themselves have to actively find their own ways to integrate into the international work environment and especially improve their foreign language and professional skills to meet the increasingly high demands of employers.
