Int’l workshops on cosmology kick off in south-central Vietnam

A series of scientific workshops on cosmology are being held in south-central Vietnam’s Binh Dinh Province at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE).

The first two seminars of the series, “Cosmology” and “Viet Nus 2017,” were organized on Monday at the headquarters of ICISE in Binh Dinh’s Quy Nhon City, tackling the theme of ‘Neutrino: Challenges and Limitations.’

They are part of a series of 18 international workshops on cosmology to be held at ICISE from now until the end of 2017.

Located a few kilometers away from downtown Quy Nhon City, ICISE is a science and education institution that welcomes national and international conferences, specialized professional colloquia, as well as selected thematic schools.

On Monday, experts gathered at the center to discuss the issues of cosmic background radiation, dark energy, massive objects in the universe, the flow of atmospheric neutrinos, and issues with neutrino accelerators.

The “Vietnam School on Neutrino,” a thematic school aimed at training and attracting young generations of scientists to study neutrino physics, was held simultaneously with the workshops.

Twenty Vietnamese scientists attended the school, two of which will be selected to become PhD fellows at the Neutrino Group at ICISE ([email protected]).

French Ambassador to Vietnam Bertrand Lortholary was among a number of high-ranking officials who attended the opening of the chain of workshops on Monday.

The ambassador praised the role of ICISE and its international workshops in pushing Vietnam’s scientific community forward.

“I am both surprised and overwhelmed with admiration for the attention to science that the administration of Binh Dinh Province has demonstrated,” Ambassador Lortholary said.
