Party General Secretary presents gifts to revolutionary contributors

NDO – A conference was held in Hanoi on July 26 to honour people who contributed great service to the nation. The conference, attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, honoured 700 outstanding war veterans, heroic Vietnamese mothers, Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces, ex-youth volunteers, and the relatives of martyrs and revolutionary contributors, representing over 9 million national contributors across the country. The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), Defence Ministry, Ministry of Public Security, Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper and the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee to mark the 70th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers Day (July 27, 1947-2017). According to a report by the MoLISA, over 9 million national contributors have been identified, with more than 1.2 million fallen soldiers, 127,000 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and over 800,000 wounded soldiers. Over the past five year, the relevant agencies, units and organisations have collected 75,000 sets of the remains of Vietnamese martyrs, of which 16,600 were found in Laos and 15,000 in Cambodia. The implementation of policies, towards people who contributed meritorious services to the revolution of all levels and branches, basically met the set target with 95.75% of beneficiaries having enjoyed the preferential policies of the Party and State. NDO/ VNA – The Party and State always pay great attention to caring for wounded and sick soldiers, as well as the families of the martyrs, who laid down their lives for national independence, freedom and peace, President Tran Dai Quang has said. The President made the remark in a piece of writing on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Wounded Soldiers and Martyrs' Day (July 27), in which he praised the great contributions of revolutionary contributors and highlighted the tradition of taking care of those who have made significant contributions to the nation. Policies, regulations and communications campaigns on supporting national revolutionary contributors, both in terms of health care and education, have been implemented effectively throughout the localities, he said. Cemeteries and monuments dedicated to martyrs nationwide have been upgraded and embellished, while the search for, collection and identification of the remains of martyrs has been carried out with the greatest efforts, he added. Apart from presenting gifts to wounded and sick soldiers and their relatives, many organisations and individuals have actively joined in with movements to help improve the spiritual and material lives of revolutionary contributors. Thanks to tireless efforts, up to 97 percent of the families of revolutionary contributors have a living standard that is equal to or higher than the average in their residential areas. As per the Committee, residents and businesses have all responded to the call for the fund as donations have come pouring in from across the country. Subsequently, the gratitude fund received the amount of VND197 billion in 446 cities and provinces. Additionally, local administrations encouraged social contributions to help social welfare brackets and revolutionary contributors. Local governments built and repaired 18,958 gratitude houses worth over VND736 billion and presented 207,982 gifts worth VND122 billion to these special families. Moreover, the fund organizer decided to spend VND2.8 billion from the state budget for building 70 new houses for revolutionary families in 14 provinces. Organizations and unions as well as departments had organized various activities to show gratitude to families of revolutionary contributors and martyrs, wounded soldiers. At the get-together Major General Nguyen Chi Huong, MR4’s Deputy Commander; Major General Tran Tien Dung, MR4’s Deputy Political Commissar; leaders of MR4’s affiliated agencies; and 70 revolution contributors and fallen soldiers’ relatives participated in the event. Upholding the Vietnamese tradition of “When drinking water, remember its source”, MR4’s affiliated agencies and units have over the past years closely cooperated with local Party and People’s committees, and people to better the care for policy beneficiaries, revolutionary contributors, fallen soldiers’ relatives, provide free health checkups and medicines for policy beneficiaries, search and repatriate remains of fallen soldiers. These good deeds have been seen as a token of gratitude of the Party, State and Army to heroes and fallen soldiers for their huge losses and sacrifices in the wars for national independence and freedom. The movement is to mark 70 years of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947). The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee said on July 24 that 18,958 houses have been built or repaired for contributors to the revolution at a total cost of 736 billion VND (32.4 million USD). About 207,980 gift packages worth over 121 billion VND (5.3 million USD) have also been presented to policy beneficiary families and revolutionary contributors nationwide. The VFF and its member organisations have actively coordinated with other agencies and organisations to carry out gratitude activities which have also received strong support from the public, the VFF Central Committee noted. Paying tribute to fallen soldiers in Ngoc Hoi district (Photo: VNA) Kon Tum (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam visited and presented gifts to national revolutionary contributors in the Central Highland province of Kon Tum on July 24 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947). He and his entourage visited Heroic Mother Y Noi, whose only son, A Dinh, had fallen in the fight against the US troops. The official took this occasion to offer incense at the cemetery in Ngoc Hoi district, the resting place of over 1,300 soldiers fallen in the country’s resistance wars and volunteer soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Laos and Cambodia. He also attended a ceremony to inaugurate a memorial stele of fallen soldiers in the 1968 and 1972 campaigns. The same day, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh offered incense and laid wreaths at the Vietnamese heroic mother’s statue in Tam Ky city, central Quang Nam province. Quang Nam is home to the largest number of national contributors, with 65,400 fallen soldiers, over 30,500 war invalids, and nearly 15,000 Vietnamese heroic mothers with  914 still alive.
