Post-harvest technologies needed to increase farm produce competitiveness

Jointly held by the Health Ministry and the Asia – Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Secretariat, the event has drawn 200 delegates working in different fields from the APEC economies, the United Nations’ agencies, international organizations, socio-political organizations, research institutes and universities. At least one person has been killed, 13 boat crew are missing and thousands of homes have been damaged after typhoon Talas made landfall in north-central Vietnam early on Monday morning. The typhoon reached Nghe An and Ha Tinh Provinces at around 1:00 am on Monday. As of 5:00 am on Monday morning in Nghe An, one person had been killed, 13 boat crew remained missing and 2,751 houses had been devastated, with hundreds of hectares of plantations also destroyed. Vietnamese carriers have rescheduled a number of domestic flights due to the impact of storm Talas that hit Vietnam’s north-central region on Sunday evening. Tropical storm Talas, which hit north-central Vietnam on Sunday evening, had formed in the East Vietnam Sea on Saturday and is forecast to weaken into a tropical depression upon making landfall and then later a low-pressure area, causing downpours and strong winds in the northern and north-central region. The Hanoi Transport Department has banned ride-hailing apps including Grab and Uber from offering a carpool feature, which allows people to share rides and split the costs, after an order was promulgated by the transport ministry. Grab Vietnam introduced its carpool service, GrabShare, in early May, while Uber Vietnam has also announced intentions to launch a similar service, UberPool. The ban comes less than a month after the Ministry of Transport ruled that the fare-splitting option is a violation of current laws.
