Two family members dead, two missing as flood sweeps away car in Vietnam

Two members of a family have been found dead and two others remain missing after their car was purportedly swept away by flood in the northern Vietnamese province of Thai Nguyen.

The automobile carrying the four family members was traveling on an overflowed bridge in Linh Thong Commune, Dinh Hoa District, Thai Nguyen on Saturday morning when it was swept down a stream.

Local residents discovered two bodies in the section of the stream in Lam Vy Commune at around 7:00 am the same day, Mong Dinh Cuong, chairman of the People’s Committee in Lan Vy, confirmed.

The victims were later identified as Ly Hai Lan, 33, and his son, four-year-old Ly Trung Dung, who were two of the four people in the car.

“The corpses were found eight kilometers away from the scene of the accident in Linh Thong Commune,” Cuong added.

Lan’s wife, 32-year-old Pham Thi Hue, and their eldest son, eight-year-old Ly Hai Phong, remained missing as of Saturday night.

According to Luu Tien Thanh, chairman of the People’s Committee in Linh Thong, a heavy rain hit the neighborhood on Friday night.

Chances were that the automobile was swept away by flood brought about by the downpour, Thanh stated.

“We have salvaged the car with no one inside. Competent agencies are now searching for the missing,” the official continued.
