Vice President meets Vietnamese Heroic Mothers

NDO – A conference was held in Hanoi on July 26 to honour people who contributed great service to the nation. The conference, attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, honoured 700 outstanding war veterans, heroic Vietnamese mothers, Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces, ex-youth volunteers, and the relatives of martyrs and revolutionary contributors, representing over 9 million national contributors across the country. The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), Defence Ministry, Ministry of Public Security, Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper and the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee to mark the 70th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers Day (July 27, 1947-2017). According to a report by the MoLISA, over 9 million national contributors have been identified, with more than 1.2 million fallen soldiers, 127,000 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and over 800,000 wounded soldiers. Over the past five year, the relevant agencies, units and organisations have collected 75,000 sets of the remains of Vietnamese martyrs, of which 16,600 were found in Laos and 15,000 in Cambodia. The implementation of policies, towards people who contributed meritorious services to the revolution of all levels and branches, basically met the set target with 95.75% of beneficiaries having enjoyed the preferential policies of the Party and State. NDO – Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh hosted a reception for a delegation of 100 outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs representing the Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (VINASME), in Hanoi on July 26. Addressing the meeting, the Vice President praised the significant contributions made by the businesses and businesspeople to gratitude and social charity work. Private firms play a crucial role in the country’s economic development, she said, affirming that the Party, State and Government will always stand by enterprises. Thinh spoke highly of the operational outcomes of the VINASME over the past years, suggesting that the association holds frequent meetings and dialogues with businesses in order to hear their opinions, thus becoming a connecting bridge between businesses and the Party, State and Government. Deputy PM Binh then visited the Museum of Vietnamese heroic mothers. * The same day, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam and a government delegation visited and offered gifts to national contributors’ families in Kon Tum province. Mr. Dam inquired after and presented gifts to Vietnamese heroic mother Y Noi, whose only son died during the resistance war against American invaders, and to wounded soldier, hero of the People’s Armed Forces Y Buong. NDO – Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan visited and presented gifts to policy beneficiaries and national contributors in the city. The recipients included Vietnamese heroic mother Le Thi Cach, wounded solider Tran Cong Hieu, war veteran Dinh Cong Dac and lieutenant general and former Defence Deputy Minister Phan Trung Kien, among others. Paying tribute to fallen soldiers in Ngoc Hoi district (Photo: VNA) Kon Tum (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam visited and presented gifts to national revolutionary contributors in the Central Highland province of Kon Tum on July 24 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947). He and his entourage visited Heroic Mother Y Noi, whose only son, A Dinh, had fallen in the fight against the US troops. The official took this occasion to offer incense at the cemetery in Ngoc Hoi district, the resting place of over 1,300 soldiers fallen in the country’s resistance wars and volunteer soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Laos and Cambodia. He also attended a ceremony to inaugurate a memorial stele of fallen soldiers in the 1968 and 1972 campaigns. The same day, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh offered incense and laid wreaths at the Vietnamese heroic mother’s statue in Tam Ky city, central Quang Nam province. Quang Nam is home to the largest number of national contributors, with 65,400 fallen soldiers, over 30,500 war invalids, and nearly 15,000 Vietnamese heroic mothers with  914 still alive. The central province, which the PM belongs to, is home to the largest number of contributors to the revolution in Vietnam. While praising the province for all it has done thus far, the PM said that both in the short and long term, key tasks remain, including the search for martyrs’ remains, verification of revolutionary contributors, and healthcare for the targeted group. Saturday’s meeting, held on the threshold of the 70th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947), was attended by more than 400 people “Heroic Mothers,” “Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces,” veterans of the revolution, war invalids, and martyrs’ families. Quang Nam has recognised more than 65,400 martyrs. The province is also home to more than 30,500 war invalids, 45,300 people who assisted the revolution, and 11,700 others directly involved in revolutionary activities. As many as 14,795 women have been recognised as “Heroic Mother,” and 914 of them are still alive. Quang Nam has made great efforts in caring for local martyrs’ families, war invalids and revolutionary contributors, the meeting heard. Ahead of this year’s War Invalids and Martyrs Day, the province has raised more than VND4.5 billion (US$198,000) for the savings passbooks of the 914 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, and an additional VND3.5 billion ($154,000) for other “gratitude activities”. NDO – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, on July 23, talked with local residents in Tuong Son commune, Thach Ha district in the central province of Ha Tinh. Tuong Son is one of three communes in Thanh Ha district and one of 82 communes in the province to be recognised as a new-style rural area in Ha Tinh. Talking with local residents, PM Phuc spoke highly of the people’s prompt application of advanced technology in production as well as their strong will to overcome difficulties and poverty. He also asked the local authorities to maintain social order, consolidate the political system, and encourage more positive participation from local people in production. The PM paid a visit to a consultative group on policies related to preferential loans, organic agriculture, and ‘one-stop shop’ procedures at the Tuong Son commune Administrative Centre. PM Phuc appreciated the effectiveness of these models and asked district leaders to maintain the model in order to meet the needs of locals as well as replicate it in other communes.
