Vice President meets Vietnamese Heroic Mothers

NDO/VNA - National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan visited and presented gifts to policy beneficiary families in Ho Chi Minh City’s outlying district of Cu Chi on July 26 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers Day. On behalf of Party and State leaders, the NA Chairwoman expressed profound gratitude to wounded soldiers, war martyrs and revolutionary contributors for their sacrifice and service during the cause of national liberation, construction and defence. In the afternoon of the same day, Chairwoman Ngan together with leaders of the Party, State and Ho Chi Minh City laid wreaths and offered incense at the Fallen Soldiers’ Cemetery in Cu Chi district and Ben Duoc Memorial Temple. At the temple, the top legislator visited an exhibition themed “Portraits of Ho Chi Minh City’s Heroic Vietnamese Mothers”. Ho Chi Minh City is now home to 5,184 heroic Vietnamese mothers, of whom 4,905 have passed away. Paying tribute to fallen soldiers in Ngoc Hoi district (Photo: VNA) Kon Tum (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam visited and presented gifts to national revolutionary contributors in the Central Highland province of Kon Tum on July 24 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947). He and his entourage visited Heroic Mother Y Noi, whose only son, A Dinh, had fallen in the fight against the US troops. The official took this occasion to offer incense at the cemetery in Ngoc Hoi district, the resting place of over 1,300 soldiers fallen in the country’s resistance wars and volunteer soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Laos and Cambodia. He also attended a ceremony to inaugurate a memorial stele of fallen soldiers in the 1968 and 1972 campaigns. The same day, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh offered incense and laid wreaths at the Vietnamese heroic mother’s statue in Tam Ky city, central Quang Nam province. While praising the province for all it has done thus far, the PM said that both in the short and long term, key tasks remain, including the search for martyrs’ remains, verification of revolutionary contributors, and healthcare for the targeted group. Saturday’s meeting, held on the threshold of the 70th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947), was attended by more than 400 people “Heroic Mothers,” “Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces,” veterans of the revolution, war invalids, and martyrs’ families. Quang Nam has recognised more than 65,400 martyrs. The province is also home to more than 30,500 war invalids, 45,300 people who assisted the revolution, and 11,700 others directly involved in revolutionary activities. As many as 14,795 women have been recognised as “Heroic Mother,” and 914 of them are still alive. Quang Nam has made great efforts in caring for local martyrs’ families, war invalids and revolutionary contributors, the meeting heard. NDO – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, on July 23, talked with local residents in Tuong Son commune, Thach Ha district in the central province of Ha Tinh. Tuong Son is one of three communes in Thanh Ha district and one of 82 communes in the province to be recognised as a new-style rural area in Ha Tinh. Talking with local residents, PM Phuc spoke highly of the people’s prompt application of advanced technology in production as well as their strong will to overcome difficulties and poverty. He also asked the local authorities to maintain social order, consolidate the political system, and encourage more positive participation from local people in production. The PM paid a visit to a consultative group on policies related to preferential loans, organic agriculture, and ‘one-stop shop’ procedures at the Tuong Son commune Administrative Centre. PM Phuc appreciated the effectiveness of these models and asked district leaders to maintain the model in order to meet the needs of locals as well as replicate it in other communes. NDO – It is crucial to implement preferential policies and comprehensive socio-economic policies more effectively, for people who have made meritorious contributions, while providing education and vocational training for national contributors and their relatives. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the above requirement during a conference held in the central Quang Nam province, on July 22, to honour contributors to the national revolution on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day (July 27). At the event, the leaders of Quang Nam presented a summary of the 20 year implementation of preferential policies for national contributors in the province and honoured its localities for caring for wounded and fallen soldiers since the reestablishment of the province (1997). According to the report, Quang Nam has the largest number of policy beneficiaries across the nation, with the number of revolutionary contributors accounting for more than 23% of its population. The province has more than 65,400 martyrs and over 135,000 of their relatives; over 30,500 wounded soldiers and more than 45,300 people who have made contributions to the revolution. Notably, the province has 14,795 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers (13,881 passed away) and all of them are supported by the relevant agencies, units and enterprises. The couples arrived in Dong Hoi city in the central province of Quang Binh on May 6 for their fifth mission, where they will have to learn and sing a Vietnamese song besides a monument dedicated to a Vietnamese heroic mother, Mother Suot. A member of the show’s jury, Allegra said the site was chosen for its great historical value as a symbol for Vietnamese mothers who have made great contribution and sacrifice for the country during the wartime. After listening to local girls sing the Vietnamese song “Nhu co Bac Ho trong ngay vui dai thang” (Uncle Ho seems to be with us in happy days of the great victory), the participating couples’ mission is to find copies of the song’s lyrics hidden at eight spots in Dong Hoi market and learn from locals how to sing the song. They have to sing this song in Vietnamese fluently besides the monument in order to be able to continue to the next mission, which is scheduled to take place at Hien Luong bridge in the neighbouring province of Quang Tri . Participating couples have to find the way and means to their next destination by themselves, and each person is given only EUR1 for their travel. Their trip started in the capital city of Hanoi, and they have travelled through northern Quang Ninh province’s Ha Long city, northern Ninh Binh province and Vinh city of central Nghe An province....
