The study deals with the importance of destination attributes in tourism development and provides a glance on their role toward tourists' satisfaction with a particular destination as Hanoi. By using the utility of mixed-method design as data collection, the study analyzed both quantitative and qualitative data. In the quantitative research, the survey questionnaire was investigated the opinions and feedback from 246 foreign tourists who visited Hanoi between July and August in 2012. The HOLSAT model was applied as a valuable tool to elaborate the (dis-) satisfaction of tourists at the destination. Moreover, it has been inspired by the face-to-face interview with seven tour operators in mid-August to gain insights into the problems and contribution of their current business toward Hanoi tourism and international tourists to the city. (VEN) - In the first half of 2012, the Hanoi hotel market has shown positive signals. According to tourism experts, an increasing number of tourists staying in Hanoi in the second quarter (389,649 foreign visitors and 2,350,000 Vietnamese visitors) contributed to the occupancy of hotels in the capital. The second quarter, however, is a low season for luxury hotel segment. In the first six months of this year, the three-star hotel segment saw the positive growth rates in all criteria in comparison with other segments with hotel room capacities reaching 55.4 percent. Despite the impact of the low season (from May 2012), hotel room capacities of the five-star hotel segment with many foreign brands, still increased slightly. Meanwhile, four star hotels faces more difficulties amid economic slowdown due to few number of hotels with international brands. Tourism experts predicted that the second half of 2012 would still be the low season for luxury hotel segment while improvement would be seen in the middle segment. The reason is the global economic weakness that puts high pressure on customers and they have to turn their minds to other more economical options. Also due to seasonal factors, the third quarter is usually a low season for luxury hotels but a high season for domestic ones. Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department for Culture, Sports and Tourism Truong Minh Tien said recently there were times when local hotels lacked high quality rooms and other support services to serve tourists, especially large delegations. In the…... [read more]
