HCM City’s annual retail promotion month gets bigger

Hanoi, August 10 (VNA) – Up to 500 retailers and businesses will attend the Hanoi Sales Promotion Month 2017 in November, allowing consumers access to a wide range of discounted products at about 1,000 locations.  At a conference on the event, Vice Director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade Tran Thi Phuong Lan said it will lure both retailers and enterprises in food, banking, healthcare and education.  Various promotional events will be held by the industry and trade department during the month. As part of the activities, a three-day tourism promotion festival will be held in the Octagonal House at the city’s Ly Thai To Park. Themed “Hanoi-a cultural destination”, the event aims to promote tours with discounts in the city in November.  Meanwhile, the traditional “Golden Days” will be observed in 50 locations across the city where discounts from 20 percent-50 percent will be available.  Also, the Online Golden Week will offer products and services with discounts of up to 50 percent, held following the Golden Days event.  Four “Startup with businesses” zones, a highlight of the Hanoi promotion month, will connect enterprises and students to enhance the startup movement in the city. The Sales Promotion Month launched by the Department of Industry and Trade and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in HCM City received the strongest response from businesses yet. Approximately 600 businesses, mostly involved in garments and textiles, food and drink, home utensils and tourism services, joined the event with 2,000 sales promotion sites, 35 percent more than last year. Many types of promotions have been offered such as five to fifty percent discounts, lotteries and free services. Importantly, 97 percent of products on sales during the promotion month are made locally. Saigon Co.op supermarket launched a promotion called “Proud of Vietnamese Goods” at a total cost of VND 45 billion and attracted 400 domestic producers. The number of businesses taking part in the programme rose by 150 percent compared to last year, and 1,500 products have been discounted 10-50 percent, 90 percent of which are high-quality Vietnamese goods. Big C supermarkets’ six nine-month long promotions called “Vietnamese people use Vietnamese goods” have discounted nearly 100 essential domestic goods up to 50 percent, including clothes, home utensils, dried food and cosmetics. Meanwhile, Vinatexmart supermarkets run by the Vietnam National Garment and Textile Group (Vinatex) have put more than 1,000 garments on sale with a discount of 10-50 percent plus gifts Distributors for HCM City businesses such as Vissan, Phu An Sinh, Ba Huan, Huynh Gia Huynh De also joined this promotion month. Vietnamese goods now secure their own position in the local market and have won consumers’ trust. Businesses also see opportunities to develop their brand names in the market, contributing to an increase in Vietnamese-made goods. According to a survey of some supermarkets in HCM City, the rate of Vietnamese goods has risen dramatically in some major supermarket chain such as Marximark with 70 percent, Big C with 95 percent and Saigon Coop with 95 percent. The turnover of Vietnamese goods has also increased. In addition, Vietnamese goods have gradually won the trust of consumers thanks to an improvement in the quality and design of products and reasonable prices. Nguyen Bich Nga, from Tan Phu district said that she often bought Vietnamese goods as they are well made and of high quality. Businesses have been the first to respond to the campaign “Vietnamese people using Vietnamese goods”. They have come up with business strategies for the domestic market to meet consumer demands. Some businesses including Nutifoods, the Saigon Trade Corporation, Vissan and My Hao have successfully carried out campaigns to take goods to rural areas, offering farmers access to quality goods at reasonable prices. Sales promotion month pays off By Hong Van - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC - It is a nice surprise for many producers and traders joining the Sales Promotion Month in the city as sale revenues increased sharply in the first week since its launch, said an official with the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade. Initial surveys at main distributors and businesses in HCMC show that their sale revenues have increased by 50-60% and approached 70% on the National Day over normal days, said Tran Thi Chi Linh, head of industry-trade promotion and export-import department under the Department, the organizer of the event. Thien Hoa to expand retail system By Tuong Vi - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC - Thien Hoa Electronics, a retailer of home appliances including metal wares and electronics items, will soon open one more store in HCMC to further expand its distribution system, said an executive of the company. Since the establishment of its first store in HCMC's District 10 eight years ago, Thien Hoa now has four retail stores and a customer care service in the city. HCMC expects Promotion Month to spur trade By Minh Tam - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – A special Sales Promotion Month will kick off in HCMC on September 1, featuring a consumer goods fair and mobile sales teams in 87 different sites plus special discounts at scores of shopping venues, the organizers said on Monday. Tran Vinh Nhung, deputy director of the Department of Industry and Trade, told a press conference held on Monday at the Saigon Times Group that the 6th Sales Promotion Month would be joined by hundreds of traders and would reach out to consumers far and wide. The program will be kicked off late this month until September 26 at 46 Co.opMart supermarkets and 12 Co.op Food stores. Besides, the supermarket will also launch mobile stores stocked with essential commodities, with prices slashed by up to 50% for sale to workers and poor people.
