The Vietnamese team was led by NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong, who is also the President of the Women Parliamentarian Group. Meanwhile, the Lao team was led by NA Vice Chairwoman Sysay Leudedmounsone, the leader of the Lao Women Parliamentarian Group. According to Dinh Van Thu, Chairman of the Quang Nam People’s Committee, the province enjoyed a gross regional domestic product growth of 14.73 in 2016 and 6.36 percent in the first half of 2017. The province has also established close partnership with Lao localities, including Sekong, Attapeu and Salavan. So far, as many as 26 provincial departments, agencies and organisations of Quang Nam have partnered and twinned with those in Sekong province, while all districts of Sekong have set up twin relations with Quang Nam localities, including those along the border. Quang Nam and Sekong have actively implemented the Vietnam-Lao border regulations as well as the agreement on undocumented migrants and unregistered marriages in border areas. Quang Nam has also supported Sekong in infrastructure building, economic development, security, education and training, culture and tourism. Visitors at the exhibition (Photo: VNA) Can Tho (VNA) – The museum of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho and the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) on August 8 jointly held a photo exhibition to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The exhibition, which will run until September 30, features 120 photos introducing the establishment and development of the association, along with the socio-economic achievements as well as national cultural identity of Vietnam in the ASEAN community. Via the lens of VNA reporters, important events throughout ASEAN’s five-decade development are highlighted, including the first ASEAN Environment Forum in Hanoi in September 1999, the opening of the Conference of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information in October 2000 in Hanoi and the 34th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Hanoi in July 2001. Director of the Can Tho Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tran Viet Phuong said that the event is part of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN and 72 years of the August Revolution (August 19), and the National Day (September 2). VietNamNet Bridge – A taxi driver in Da Nang has been fired after a tourist reported being overcharged for a short trip in the city last week. Representatives of Da Nang’s Taxi Association and agencies hold a meeting about the overcharging suffered by a tourist in the city.  Director of Hai Van Taxi Firm, Doan Trung Lam, said the company decided to fire the driver for his unprofessional behaviour towards a foreign passenger on August 4. The driver was also forced to pay the company VND2 million (US$88.4) for the negative impact his actions had on the company’s reputation. Lam said the driver took a Korean tourist from Da Nang International Airport to a hotel on An Thuong 26 Street in Ngu Hanh Son District. The 6km route should have cost VND50,000 ($2.2) plus a VND10,000 (44 cents) airport fee. However, the driver charged the tourist a total of VND700,000 ($31). The passenger complained to the hotel receptionist, and a report was sent to the director of the city’s transport department. A representative from the taxi firm apologised to the tourist at the hotel and offered her a free tour around the city as way of compensation. During a meeting on Monday, chairman of the city’s Taxi Association, Vo Thanh Nhan, said incidents of overcharging were rare in the city, and the driver received a heavy fine for his actions. Cua Dai Beach in Hoi An Town has been restored and attracted many visitors after three years being ravaged by erosion. Cua Dai Beach has atrracted tourists again. In late July, visitors have returned to Cua Bai Beach, playing and relaxing on the 20m-long beach. Ly Thi Ninh, a 50-year-old seller, said she had worked on this beach for a decade and witnessed the eroded beach. "Since April, visitors starting returning after the beach was refilled. At first, only a few tourists from nearby hotels went out. Then as the beach was enlarged, more people came. Tourists from neighbouring areas also visit more often. The beach is full from dawn until dusk," she said. Tran Thi Xuong, a 46-year-old seller, said she had to find another job and was thrilled when she can return to the old one. "My earnings aren’t as good as before but I'm glad. I didn't think that I can continue selling drinks and snacks under this palm tree here," she said. Another seller, Nguyen Thi Hoa, said she was glad that the beach hadn’t been abandoned. In order to keep the beach, the authorities of Quang Nam Province have held various conferences to find the most suitable solution. Manila, August 8 (VNA) –Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh has stressed the need for ASEAN+3 (ASEAN and China, the Republic of Korea and Japan), the East Asia Summit (EAS) and the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) to promote cooperation on the basis of ensuring ASEAN’s central role.  The move aims to contribute to tackling regional security challenges and tightening connectivity in the region, the official said at the 18th ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers Meeting and the seventh EAS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila, the Philippines, on August 7.
