Delivery relief aids to flood-hit locals in Nam Pam commune of Son La (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Party Central Committee’s Office on August 8 raised 421 million VND (18,519 USD) to support locals in northern mountainous localities that have been hit by torrential rains and floods. Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, former Party General Secretaries Le Kha Phieu and Nong Duc Manh, as well as other former Party and State leaders and officials of the Party Central Committee’s Office donated at least one-day salary to the fund. The same day, the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee also called on State officials and public servants to contribute at least one-day salary to a fund as aid to the flood-hit localities. During the day, the VFF raised 105 million VND (4,618 USD), while receiving 50 million VND (2,199 USD) from the National Assembly Office and 450 million VND (19,795 USD) from the Ministry of Information and Communications for the fund. Hanoi has also offered 4.5 billion VND (197,955 USD) to assist the northern mountainous provinces. Recent heavy rains and flash floods have taken the lives of 26 people and left 15 others missing and 27 injured in northern mountainous provinces, mostly Yen Bai, Son La, Lai Chau, Dien Bien and Cao Bang, according to the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control. Ho Thi Kim Thoa (Photo: VNA)     Hanoi (VNA) – The Party Central Committee’s Secretariat has decided to relieve Ho Thi Kim Thoa of her membership at the Party delegation at the Ministry of Industry and Trade for her violations when she led the Dien Quang Lamp Joint Stock Company. At a meeting chaired by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on August 8, the Secretariat also proposed the Prime Minister dismiss Thoa from the post of Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade. It made the decision after considering the proposal of the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission and opinions of relevant agencies. Earlier, the Inspection Commission issued a warning against Thoa for “serious violations” while she was working at the Dien Quang company. It also proposed Thoa be stripped of all current positions. The commission said that while serving as Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of former State-owned Dien Quang Lamp Company, and then Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and General Director of the Dien Quang Lamp Joint Stock Company, from January 2004 to May 2010, Thoa violated regulations and procedures on business equitisation, and wrongly handled the loan interest worth 6.7 billion VND (298,000 USD) exempted by banks. Illustrative image (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam is facing great challenges in attracting investment in forest-based profitable and sustainable business activities, said Nguyen Van Ha, Vice Director of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development at a conference in Hanoi on August 7. Ha held that social resources account for 70 percent of total capital for the national target programme on sustainable forestry. However, mobilising investment from enterprises and individuals hasn’t yet been designed in a synchronic, comprehensive and specific manner, especially in attracting sustainable investment to natural forest. He noted that over the past years, Vietnam has applied a number of measures to plant and protect forest, thus raising the forest coverage to 41.19 percent in 2016.Vietnam currently has 10 million hectares of natural forest, accounting for 71 percent of total forest area, but mostly newly-restored and poor forest, he said. Meanwhile, Nguyen Van Tien, head of the Rural Agriculture Department under the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, said that the building of economic and business models that create opportunities for economic sectors in forest development has remained unattractive to investors. Ha said that Vietnam has implemented the polity to stop the exploitation of natural forest in order to develop natural forest sustainably, along with collectingenvironmental service fees. Lao officials visit Vinamilk plant (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Visiting Lao officials have expressed their hope that the Vietnam Dairy Products JSC Company (Vinamilk) will consider seeking opportunities to extend investment in and exports to Laos. Head of the Lao Party Central Committee’s Commission for Propaganda and Training and President of the Lao Academy of Social Science Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune expressed the hope while visiting the Vietnam Dairy Products JSC Company (Vinamilk) in the southern province of Binh Duong recently.  Vinamilk Executive Director Bui Thi Huong briefed the Lao guests about the firm’s business operations, including exports. Lying on the site of 20ha at My Phuoc 2 industrial zone, Vinamilk’s Mega is the largest dairy manufacturing plant in the country. With a total cost of 2.4 trillion VND (104.3 million USD), it has a designed capacity of 1.2 million litres per day in the first stage. The figure will double to 2.4 million litres per day in the second stage. With a closed and automated production line, its manufacturing process meets GMP and stringent international standards on food quality and hygiene and environment protection. Vinamilk now boasts 13 farms across the country with cows imported from Australia, the US and New Zealand, which are the first in Southeast Asia to meet Global GAP practices. Nguyen Van Khoi, a representative of the liaison board, said during the war against the US, the Central Bureau for South Vietnam, led by the Party Central Committee to steer revolutionary activities in the south, assigned the Party committees at its civil, political and Party agencies to be in charge of Party building work. In the spring of 1968, the Party committees called on all Party members and locals to join people and soldiers across the south to wage the General Offensive and Uprising to attack the US puppet government’s headquarters in Saigon, forcing the US to join the Paris conference for peace in Vietnam and then withdraw from southern Vietnam in 1973. Under the leadership of the Central Bureau for South Vietnam, the Party committees at its civil, political and Party agencies directed preparations for the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, helping liberate the south and reunify the nation on April 30, 1975. In April 1977, the Party Committees were dissolved as they had fulfilled their tasks, Khoi noted. In 2014, the resistance tradition club’s liaison board built a centre in commemoration of the Party Committees.
