Mitsubishi recalls 4,200 SUV units

Ford Vietnam is recalling over 521 Ford Everest and 539 Ford Focus vehicles to fix sub-standard technical features. 520 of the Everest models were assembled in Vietnam between May 27, 2008 and October 29, 2008, and one imported unit was manufactured in 2007. These cars need a part of their gear boxes replaced because of an error that could prevent switching gears. Meanwhile, the 539 Focuses were assembled in Vietnam between August 8, 2013 and April 14, 2014, and both the sedan and hatchback versions had a problem with the brake causing it to wear off faster than it should. The recalls are going to end on August 1, 2019 for the Everest and September 1, 2019 for the Focus. At the same time, General Motors Vietnam is recalling 137 Chevrolet Colorado LT and Chevrolet Colorado LTZ models for technical errors. The vehicles were made in Thailand between January 12, 2015 and March 18, 2015. The problem is with the seatbelt and could endanger passengers’ lives in the event of a collision. Earlier this month, Vietnam Register approved Toyota Motors’ recalling of 20 RX350 and RX200t completely built units imported from Japan due to the Takata airbag issue, which involves defective inflator and propellant devices that may deploy improperly in the event of a crash, shooting metal fragments at passengers. Steel export posts strong increase in 2016 Export of steel products in the first eight months this year reached 1.77 million tonnes, an increase of 49 percent from the previous year, according to the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA). During the period, the country produced 11.5 million tonnes, up 29 percent from earlier year and consumed 9.5 million tonnes, an increase of 29 percent. The price of construction steel went up in August and September, by 150,000-300,000 VND per tonne, reaching 9.5-9.9 million VND per tonne. In the same period, 13.7 million tonnes of steel products were imported at a cost of 5.15 billion USD, up 62.5 percent in volume and 15 percent in value. China accounted for 6.5 million tonnes or nearly 60 percent of the total imported steel volume. Booze exports to be reduced Viet Nam expects to earn US$900 million from exporting beverage products by 2035, according to the industry's planning. Under the new plan to 2025, with a vision to 2035, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has targeted the development of a modern industry which can compete in global integration. Accordingly, focus would be placed on applying technologies to improve product quality, diversify products and build brand names. The main page of Mitsubishi Vietnam has recently seen the sudden appearance of pictures hinted at the Outlander 2016 – a crossover highly expected in thne market, as well as promises that this model will soon be launched in no time. Previously Mitsubishi Vienam only sold the Outlander Sport line in the Vietnam market. However, this will soon be changed with the arrival of the Outlander. Quoc Hung Cars subject to the recall belong to the multi-purpose Zinger GLS model assembled from September 4, 2008 to October 17, 2012. The campaign will start from June 1 and end at end-May next year. It takes about half an hour to check and replace the part for each car at no charge. According to Mitsubishi, if the airbag is activated in a collision, the airbag detonator would create excessive pressure, breaking the airbag cover or small parts and shooting debris out to hurt the driver and deactivate the airbag. The company did not name the airbag supplier. For driver safety, Mitsubishi Vietnam said owners of the affected cars should bring their autos to its authorized dealerships nationwide for free checks and replacements. According to Vietnam Register, General Motors Vietnam (GM Vietnam) will recall 39 small Chevrolet Aveo cars to check and repair the peeled weld positioning the brake bracket to the car floor. GM Vietnam said one or two welds did not meet requirements during auto hull welding and can be peeled off during the braking process, and this may affect the effectiveness of the handbrake. Chevrolet Aveo autos under recall were manufactured from January 1, 2015 to end-March, with the recall period lasting until November 11, 2016 at official dealerships of GM Vietnam. Mitsubishi and Audi recall cars in VietnamLe Hoang HCMC – Mitsubishi Motors Vietnam and Audi Vietnam have just announced to recall 4,214 Mitsubishi cars with technical fault and 33 Audi Q3 autos with brake light malfunction, according to Vietnam Register. Among the 4,214 Mitsubishi cars, there are 3,275 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vehicles manufactured between 2011 and 2016, and 943 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport manufactured between 2014 and 2016. The recall starts from now and is expected to last two years. According to the manufacturer, the supporting hinge of the backdoor can be rusted due to being incompletely painted, and can then be broken. The worst-case scenario is that the door can drop at any time, or the broken hinge can cause damage to people nearby. To ensure safety, the manufacturer recommends customers to bring their cars to service centers for the hinge replacement as soon as possible. The service is totally free and should take around 30 minutes for each. Meanwhile, 33 Audi Q3 cars in Vietnam manufactured between June 2014 and November 2016 with brake light malfunction are being recalled until the end of October. Sales of domestically assembled cars in the 17 months only rose 27%, while imported cars posted a 66% growth in the same period, according to the VAMA. Such a huge disparity was also recorded in separate months, the association added. In July, the growth of imported cars was 62%, compared to 24% for those assembled in Vietnam. The figures were 73% compared to 23% in May. Cars manufactured in ASEAN countries account for a considerable amount of the vehicles sold by VAMA businesses, as they are subject to a 50% import duty, instead of the usual 60%. ASEAN is a ten-member bloc which includes such Southeast Asian countries as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Ford Vietnam sold 1,287 cars in August, 394 of which were imported from Thailand, according to VAMA. Similarly, 423 out of the 3,615 units Toyota Vietnam sold in the same month were manufactured in Thailand. The VAMA businesses only sell made-in-Thailand pick-up trucks, as the vehicles are only subject to a 5% import duty. Vietnam imported more than 7,400 cars from Thailand in the Jan-Aug period, compared to 745 units from India, according to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
