Artisans from the Hue Kites Club are currently making the best beautiful kites to attend the International Kites Festival to be held in China late this month. Among 20 kites to be introduced at the festival, there will be traditional kites, which has existed in Hue for nearly 200 years such as phoenix kites, pheasant kites and dragon kites.This year, a 50 m-long butterfly kite string, made of bamboo and cloth and a 60m-long dragon kite will be first introduced to the international public. The winning photos are “Tam Tau” (Trio) by Ha Van Dong, “Ba Chi Em Nguoi Mong” (Three Little H’mong Girls) by Tran Thiet Dung and “Qua Khu Mot Trieu Dai” (Remnants of a Dynasty) by Nguyen Quang Tuan. The other gold medals went to “Rising Planet-10” by Mikhail Bondar from Ukraine and “Festival Tha Dieu Quoc Te O Vung Tau” (International Kite Festival in Vung Tau) by Vietnamese-French artist Tran Huu Tri. The photo contest was launched in May by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA) under the sponsorship of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP). The organizing board received more than 10,612 entries from over 1,600 photographers in 55 countries and territories around the globe. An international exhibition showcasing the best 505 entries of the contest will be held at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi this November. The event aims to promote the cultural value of traditional sports activities and create favourable conditions for craftsmen to expand the making of kite models nationwide. Ho Van Loi, director of the provincial department of culture, sports and tourism, said that the event provides an opportunity for local artisans to share experiences in developing kite art with those from other nations and promote the hospitality of Ba Ria Vung Tau to both local and international friends. The two-day festival brought together nearly 190 leading kite artists from 15 clubs nationwide. Quang Nam Heritage Festival becomes domestically and internationally popular due to rich and moreish art performances and activities. According to Director of Quang Nam Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dinh Hai, the 6th Heritage Festival under theme Quang Nam – Connecting world heritages will be held in the localities of Hoi An, Tam Ky, Duy Xuyen, Dien Ban, Tay Giang, Phu Ninh, Tien Phuoc and Nam Tra My. PANO - The 7th International Kite Festival 2016, themed “Dance of Peace”, started in Vung Tau city, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on December 9. This year event attracted 94 artisans, including 64 international ones from 23 nations and territories such as the US, the UK, Taiwan (China), Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, to name but a few.
