Photo exhibition on “ASEAN People and Countries” in Hanoi

NDO/VNA – An outdoor photo exhibition, showcasing the beauty of the landscape, culture and people of ASEAN countries, opened at Ly Thai To Statue Square on Hanoi’s walking street, on August 5. The exhibition, titled “ASEAN Countries and People,” was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to mark the occasion of the 50th anniversary since the founding of ASEAN (1967-2017). On display are 230 works taken by 136 photographers from ten ASEAN countries, 61 of whom are Vietnamese. Fifty photos were taken in Vietnam, while 180 others were captured in the other nine ASEAN countries (20 photos each), all of which vividly and truthfully depict the country, people, culture, society, economy and exchange activities of the member nations. The photos were selected from the entrants to a contest launched by the Department of Art, Photography and Exhibitions, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which attracted 10,127 entries by 1,248 amateur and professional artists from across the ASEAN region. “This is the photographic exhibition with the highest number of entries that has been held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam in recent years. City leader Huynh Cach Mang said that the city delegation organized practical and effective activities to tighten further friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation ties between the two nations within the visit framework.  Particularly, the city's delegation collaborated with leaders of Vientiane capital, Champasak, Savannakhet and Xiangkhouang provinces to co-organize activities marking the 55th establishment anniversary of diplomatic ties (September 5, 1962- 2017) and the 40th anniversary since Vietnam and Laos co-signed Friendship and Cooperation Treaty (July 18, 1977-2017); and localities of Laos to hold a cultural event named “The 2017 Ho Chi Minh City Days in Vientiane and Champasak” with photo exhibition, folk and fashion performances … The events were broadcasted on the Lao National Television and localities, attracting thousands of audiences.  Besides that, the delegation also held Ho Chi Minh City Trade, Services and Tourism in Savanakhet, Conference for Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion in Laos, offering ceremony of cow breed, opening ceremony of photo exhibition about Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City and Laos relationship, opening ceremony of reading room for children in Xiangkhouang province. Leaders of Ho Chi Minh City and Xiang Khouang province visit the photo exhibition (Source: hcmcpv.org.vn)   Vientiane (VNA) – A photo exhibition highlighting the fine relations between Vietnam and Laos and between Ho Chi Minh City and Xiang Khouang province opened on July 31 in the Lao province. Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Huynh Cach Mang said that the bilateral friendship was founded by late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh and his Lao counterpart Kaysone Phomvihane and has been nurtured by generations of Party and State leaders and peoples. The relations are a precious asset and an important factor for each country’s revolutionary triumph and development, he affirmed. The official, who is also President of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association’s Ho Chi Minh City chapter, said that the exhibition and the launch of a children’s reading room at the library of the Xiang Khouang province are gifts from the city to Xiang Khouang, thus helping the two peoples understand more about the close relationship between the two countries. Vietnam Airlines representatives presented incentives for Italian partners when conducting tours of Vietnam flying Vietnam Airlines flights from the EU. Currently, the airline does not have direct flights from Italy to Vietnam so Italian passengers can use flights from Milan and Rome via Paris and Frankfurt to Vietnam. On this occasion, the airline introduced major tourist attractions in Vietnam, such as Ha Long Bay, Danang, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet-Mui Ne, Hoi An, Con Dao (Poulo Condor) and some other Southeast Asian cities that it has direct flights to like Yangon (Myanmar), Vientiane (Laos), and Phnom Penh (Cambodia). Last year, more than 50,000 Italian visitors came to Vietnam, a year-on-year increase of 10%. Lu Bang, deputy director of the city’s Department of Industry and Trade, said the photo exhibition aimed to vividly portray the city’s accomplishments to help visitors better understand the city’s development. The event will help to advertise Vietnamese brand names in general and those from the city in particular in hopes of stimulating local trade, tourism and investment attraction activities, she stressed. The exhibition features more than 480 stands of over 300 domestic and foreign enterprises. The foreign participants are from Japan, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and China. The scheduled activities include a photo exhibition on AO victims, a writing contest on dioxin pain, a walk, a procession of wheelchairs, and an art performance. This is the fifth time the association has sponsored such a programme. Currently, the city has more than 4,000 AO victims, half of them children and it spends VND3.5 billion – 4 billion on caring for these victims. The association’s chairman Huynh The Cuoc said the programme aims to support the struggle for justice and mobilize resources to help AO victims.
