During a meeting with the UNESCO leader in the city on August 26, Nhan proposed that UNESCO assist the city in implementing research programmes on impacts of sea level rise and salinity in Can Gio Biosphere Reserve. Nhan thanked Bokova for supporting Vietnam in implementing cooperation activities with UNESCO, contributing to the growth of Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City. He held that the third visit of Bokova to Vietnam shows the goodwill of UNESCO to Vietnam, especially through the signing of an agreement on the formation of the two centres of mathematics and physics under UNESCO’s sponsor. For her part, Bokova said that her visit is a chance for UNESCO and Vietnam to review their cooperation and discuss plan to expand collaboration in the future, especially in areas of innovation, cultural management, and environment research. Liem made the remark at a meeting with Joo Joong Chul, Deputy Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do province in the southern economic hub on August 25. Gyeongju is a city in the Republic of Korea’s Gyeongsangbuk-do. Liem said HCM City always listens to feedback and opinions from the RoK’s side during their joint preparation for the festival. Australia’s Defense Minister Marise Payne is on an official visit to Vietnam on August 24-25. This is the fourth official visit to Vietnam by a defense minister of Australia since the two countries set up defense ties in 1999, which realizes bilateral commitments to intensifying defense cooperation for peace, stability, and wealth of the region. At the talk  At the talks, the ministers discussed regional security issues of shared concern and orientations for bilateral defense cooperative activities in the coming time. They shared the view that the two countries’ defense cooperation is substantive, stable, and sustainable, and it is in line with the memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation inked in 2010. At the meeting in Hanoi, the two sides hailed the countries’ relations since they set up diplomatic ties in 1975, adding that they have continually given enormous support to each other’s national protection and development. Chairwoman Ngan said aside from fine political linkages, connections in economy, trade, investment, education, agriculture and services have also been reinforced. She affirmed that the Vietnamese National Assembly supports the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Vietnam and the Mozambican Attorney General’s Office to step up cooperation and information and experience sharing so as to serve the reform and completion of each country’s judicial system. The meeting is part of the APEC Food Security Week and a high level policy dialogue on enhancing food security and sustainable agriculture in response to climate change in the Mekong Delta city. At the event, delegates from the 21 APEC economies focus their discussions on the region’s common action plan on ensuring sustainable use and development of fisheries resources in Asia-Pacific, the improvement of coastal communities’ resilience to natural disasters, and the enhancement of the economies’ connectivity to protect the marine environment and effectively exploit ocean resources. They are scheduled to update on the implementation of some initiatives in promoting the marine debris treatment capacity, build a set of tools to assess ecological risks caused by climate change impacts on fisheries, and look for ways to attract the private sector to marine environment protection and sustainable livelihood and fisheries promotion.
