Singapore’s National Day marked in Ho Chi Minh City

President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO), Vu Xuan Hong made the remark at the first congress of the VSFA held in Hanoi on September 18. The VUFO President congratulated the VFSFA on its establishment and becoming the 109th member of VUFO. The Party and the State have attached great importance to enhancing relations with nations in the South East Asia including Singapore, adding the establishment of the association is a new advancement in the two countries’ friendship relations and people-to-people exchange, Hong said VUFO PresidentVu Xuan Hong and Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Vinh expressed hope that the VSFA will conduct practical and effective activities to deepen mutual understanding among peoples of Vietnam, Singapore and ASEAN member states, helping to build an ASEAN community by 2015. Hong also asked the Singaporean embassy to support the establishment of the association to further increase people-to-people exchange to match the full potential of both nations’ friendship relations. The congress elected a 29 member-executive committee and appointed National Finance Supervisory Commission Chairman Vu Viet Ngoan as Chairman of the association in the 2014-2019 period. VSFA President Vu Viet Ngoan said the association’s objectives are to organise diverse activities to accelerate trade and economic ties, seminars on culture and arts and co-ordinate with relevant agencies to boost tourism, environment and educational activities. Speaking at the ceremony on August 6 to celebrate Singapore’s 44th National Day and the 5th anniversary of the Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association (VSFA), the Singaporean Consul General confirmed that the framework agreement on economic links between Vietnam and Singapore is a solid foundation that acts as a catalyst for close links between the two economies. He said in addition to economic ties, he highly appreciates the close relationship between the people of the two countries and the important role the friendship association has played in bringing them closer together through its innovative activities. “The close bilateral relationship between the two nations is well reflected in Ho Chi Minh City ,” he added. So far, the city’s efforts in human resources development have benefited from over 10 training cooperation programmes, both short and long-term, with the Nayang Technology University (NTU). SCP alumni gather in town Kieu Giang By Kieu Giang in HCMC The consulate general of Singapore in HCMC and the Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association on Wednesday organized Singapore Cooperation Program (SCP) Alumni Night at the New World Hotel Saigon in District 1. It was the ninth such gathering for HCMC officials who have attended training courses under the SCP. The event’s purpose was to promote closer friendship between the nations and provide an opportunity for alumni members to meet up with fellow SCP course participants and to get to know members of the Singaporean community in HCMC. “The Singapore Foreign Ministry has administered the SCP since 1992. It has so far provided technical assistance to more than 80,000 officials from developing countries. Vietnam remains one of our main ASEAN working partners,” said Pong Kok Tian, Singaporean consul general, at the event. “Within HCMC, just based on the NTU English training program that many of our Vietnamese friends here have attended, there are already more than 280 alumni. HCM City (VNA) - The Vietnam Union of Friendship Associations and the Vietnam-Singapore Friendship Association’s Ho Chi Minh City chapter jointly held a ceremony in the city on August 3 to mark the 51st anniversary of Singapore’s National Day. Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the chapter Dinh Khac Duy highlighted the strong development in the two nations’ relations, especially in investment, trade, education and tourism. He also underlined the huge potential for bilateral cooperation, saying that Vietnam and HCM City in particular continually welcome and provide all possible conditions for investors from Singapore. The chapter wishes to work closer with the Singaporean Consulate General, the Singaporean Business Association and Community in Ho Chi Minh City in order to enhance bilateral collaboration, he said.
