String of activities to be held in Hanoi to mark National Day

Significant sites in major cities of Vietnam will be lit up simultaneously on the night of August 8 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).  Popular sites in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City will be lit up simultaneously on the night of August 8 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) The cities are Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City.    The activities are part of the ASEAN Landmark Lighting event, an initiative of the Philippines - ASEAN Chair 2017 - aiming to help raise public awareness of ASEAN.  Member countries will have major sites lit up red, blue and yellow or with the icon of the bloc.  In Hanoi, the lighting decorations will be in front of the Cach Mang Thang Tam (August Revolution) Square in front of the Opera House.   The northern city of Hai Phong will install 13 ASEAN logos with lights around the flag pole at the Opera House.  Meanwhile, in Da Nang city, the Bach Dang-Nguyen Van Linh intersection next to Rong Bridge and Pham Van Dong-Vo Nguyen Giap roads along My Khe beach will be lit up. The Department of Performance Arts and the Hanoi Department of Culture and Information will introduce 10 typical stage works in Hanoi from April 14-17. These works feature the nation's two heroic struggles for independence and freedom and the new image of Vietnamese people in the renovation process.A musical show entitled "Advancing under the Party's banner" will be organised at the Friendship Cultural Palace on the evening of April 14 with the participation of 400 famous artists.Another musical programme to praise the Party, Uncle Ho and the Vietnamese people in the war time as well as in the current process of socialist construction will be performed by central and Hanoi art troupes at the August Revolution Square on April 17.The Vietnam Cinema Department, from April 15-25, will organise a film week at the National Cinema Centre to introduce many documentary and video films.... This year's series, titled "The Spirit of Inspiration and Legacy of Excellence" will welcome French pianist, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, in the first place. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the "Hennessy Concert Series", Thibaudet will present a programme of "immense technical bravura and artistic sensibility" through Robert Schumann and Maurice Ravel's works. Hanoi city Department of Culture and Sports will organize diverse cultural and artistic activities to celebrate Spring of 2017 and the 87th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3rd). Accordingly, on January 7th, the Flash Run program will take place at Ly Thai Tho statue flower garden; the Tiger Remix program will be held at the August Revolution Square in the evening of January 13th. Artistic performances will be organized at Ly Thai To statue flower garden, Ha Dong district, Tay Ho district, Son Tay town and My Dinh Stadium on January 27th (lunar New Year Eve). A Vietnamese Tet program will open at Hanoi Museum on the occasion of Tet holiday. On February 1st, 2017 (the fifth day of the first lunar month), an artistic and sport program will take place at Ly Thai To statue flower garden to celebrate 87th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. In addition, artistic performances and exhibitions will be held in central localities in the city.
