Tourism sector focuses on quality development

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST) in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an international press conference to launch the programme entitled “Exciting Vietnam”. “Exciting Vietnam” provided an excellent opportunity for the country to promote its safe, friendly and attractive destinations in key tourism areas for international press, helping them keep abreast of real situation in Vietnam and introduce the country’s tourism to international visitors. Safe, friendly and attractive destination MoCST Deputy Minister Ho Anh Tuan said despite facing a number of difficulties and challenges, the Vietnamese tourism sector still has managed to obtain stable growth in terms of the number of visitors and turnover. Last year, Vietnam received 7.57 million foreign visitors and 32.5 million domestic holiday-makers, grossing VND200 trillion in revenue. In the first half of this year, the country welcomed more than 4.28 million foreign visitors (up 21% against the same period last year) and 23.4 million domestic tourists (up 7%), yielding VND125 trillion (up 22%) in total revenue. The East Sea stand-off caused by China’s illegal deployment of Haiyang Shiyou 981-rig deep inside Vietnam’s Exclusive Economic Zone has negatively affected the tourism sector. Among the tourists, 53,337 were international visitors, an increase of 34 percent, while 153,300 were domestic holiday makers, up nine percent. On January 1 alone, 18,334 international visitors arrived in Ha Noi, up 51 percent from one year earlier. Thomas Bauche of Germany was the first international traveler to set foot in Ha Noi on the first day of 2017. Diverse activities celebrate Hanoi Liberation Day A wide array of activities commemorating the 62nd anniversary of Hanoi Liberation Day (October 10, 1954) has been unveiled. Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common viral illness that afflicts children aged under five and has no vaccine or specific treatment. The disease peaks between October and November. Fifty-two children were being treated at the Paediatrics Hospital 1 on September 29 compared to 30 in the whole of August. An 18-month-old girl from southern Tien Giang province has been placed on a ventilator after being diagnosed with grade three - with grade four being the highest - of the disease. International arrivals to Ho Chi Minh City numbered over 3.61 million in the first nine months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 13 percent. Revenue from tourism in the period hit over 73 trillion VND (3.28 billion USD), up 5.6 percent against the same period in 2015. According to the municipal Department of Tourism, the number of visitors from China, the Republic of Korea, the US and Japan surged while Russian tourists fell by 31.7 percent. Five Western European nations including the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Belarus, which enjoy visa exemption, saw an average increase of over 20 percent in the number of holidaymakers. To reach these outcomes, the city stepped up existing tourism promotion programmes such as developing river-based tourism and announcing “100 interesting facts”, standardised tourism services and tips to serve tourists. The quality of tourism events and festival was improved while communication work was also enhanced. As of mid-September this year, 2,186 accommodation facilities had been built, offering 51,353 rooms, up over 4,000 rooms from the same period last year. The Hanoitimes - Vietnam welcomed about 899,738 foreign investors in August, up 6.3 percent from July and 34.4 percent higher than the same period last year according to the Vietnam Administration of Tourism. Vietnam is likely to record a third consecutive monthly rise in the number of foreign visitors this August thanks to favorable visa policy even though it's the monsoon season, the Vietnam Administration of Tourism reported. The country received about 899,738 foreign investors in August, rising 6.3% against July and jumping 34.4% year on year. In the month, foreign arrivals by air accounted for the majority with 779,000 visitors, or 86.6 percent, up 27.7 percent year-on-year. The extension of visa exemptions for tourists from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain and Italy from July this year until June 2017 has also helped boost arrivals from these markets in August. Several flights and thousands of tours to and from the affected areas were cancelled after Dianmu, the third typhoon of this year, hit northern Vietnam on August 19. In early August, the second typhoon, Nida, caused landslides and flash floods across northern Vietnam, stranding tourists in the popular mountainous town of Sapa. Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam welcomed about 6.5 million foreign visitors in the first eight months of this year, a year on year increase of 25.4 percent, according to the National Administration of Tourism. The sector earned over 265 trillion VND (12 billion USD) in the period, up 22.5 percent against the same time in 2015. There was a jump of arrivals from Hong Kong and China with a 92.8 percent and 57.9 percent increase, respectively. There has also been a rise in the number of visitors from the Republic of Korea up 37.6 percent, Thailand 34.9 percent, Italia 31.8 percent, Spain 27.6 percent, Laos 26.6 percent, the New Zealand 26.4 percent, Russia 25 percent, and Sweden at 24.3 percent. Around 878,000 travellers visited the central coastal city of Danang in the first three months of 2015, up 17.3% against the same period last year, according to the municipal Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism. Of them, 313,000 were foreigners, an increase of 14.7% and 565,000 were domestic holiday-makers, up 18.9% compared to the same period last year. The revenue from tourism also rose 30.9% to VND2.62 trillion (US$123 million), accounting for 22.2% of the yearly plan. In March alone, the city greeted 332,000 vacationers, including 105,000 foreigners. In order to promote the tourism sector in the coming time, Danang is focusing on dealing with the beggar issue in its key tourism sites. The city has been ranked sixth in the list of the world’s 10 most improved cities that tourists should visit in 2015 published by the website ‘The Richest’. The expansion and upgrade of its international airports, the unique and newly developed hotels and resorts along the coast, and numerous direct flights from Hong Kong (China) to Vietnam have created favourable conditions for tourism development in Danang, cited the travel website.
