Vietnam – leading Asian destination for information technology

The Vietnamese and Russian presidents discussed measures for deepening the two countries’ strategic partnership and boosting bilateral cooperation in economics, technology, education and energy. They affirmed Vietnam and Russia will cooperate closely in APEC and other international forums. Mr Triet said that as President of ASEAN in 2010, Vietnam will do its utmost for the Russia-ASEAN high-level meeting in Hanoi. Meanwhile, Mr Medvedev said the recent cooperation between Vietnam and Russia has developed dynamically in all fields and at all levels. He voiced his strong support for Vietnam’s ASEAN presidency in 2010, saying he would join Vietnam to promote the Russia-ASEAN dialogue. During his meeting with Microsoft’s Craig Mundie, President Triet said Vietnam is trying to access the world’s leading information technology, including that produced by Microsoft. He said he would ask Vietnam’s related agencies to cooperate effectively with Microsoft in facilitating the projects in this field. The Vietnamese leader also said Vietnam highly values the role of Siemens and hails its efforts to expand investment in the country. He told Siemens CEO Peter Loscher that the German firm could help Ho Chi Minh City with 300-400km of underground railways to tackle its traffic congestion. FPT targets VND1.45 trillion in profit this year By Thu Thuy - The Saigon Times Daily HCMC - FPT Corporation, the leading information technology company in Vietnam, this year aims to obtain revenue of over VND17 trillion and pre-tax profit of VND1.45 trillion, whish show mild growth rates of 1.62% and 17% respectively compared to 2008 figures. Last year, FPT obtained a record revenue of VND16.8 trillion, exceeding the year's target by 6.2% and increasing 21% from the previous year. The company's 2008 pre-tax profit was VND1.24 trillion, up 20.5% from 2007. FPT's shareholders meeting also approved to pay 2008 dividend of 26% in cash. The retained profit will be used to develop its business operation. In the coming time, FPT will equitize its two subsidiaries namely FPT Information System Company and FPT Trading Company. Binh won the Nikkei Asia Prize in the regional growth category, and becomes the first Vietnamese entrepreneur to win the prize. The award ceremony will be held in Tokyo, Japan on May 22. Nikkei Inc. launched the Nikkei Asia Prizes in 1996 to celebrate the 120th anniversary of its establishment. The prizes are awarded annually to three Asian individuals and entities for their significant contributions in the areas of regional growth, science, technology and innovation and culture. Software City Embraces Green Environment By staff writers Quang Trung Software City (QTSC) will this year focus on improving services and working environment in line with the green, clean, beautiful and modern criteria, coming closer to its target of being a smart city. Viettel determined to take over EVN Telecom By Van Oanh - The Saigon Times Daily HANOI – While the Prime Minister has yet to decide on whether to transfer EVN Telecom to Viettel, this military-run telecom company has fully prepared itself to take over the money-losing mobile service provider. Viettel’s management has issued an internal resolution on the date and plan of acquiring EVN Telecom, making Viettel’s takeover of EVN Telecom more likely. The resolution also states that the takeover of EVN Telecom is a duty assigned by the Government and a chance for Viettel to become Vietnam’s leading information technology and telecom group. Viettel will take over all capital sources, assets, and telecom infrastructure facilities to be transferred from Vietnam Electricity Group legally and on schedule. Viettel also mentions in the resolution the roadmap for its acquisition, including forming a board in charge of taking over assets, manpower, lands, telecom system, as well as evaluating EVN Telecom’s debts. Viettel’s general director will be head of this board. Viettel will present to the Government the plan of acquiring EVN Telecom this month. The resolution sounds like that the Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) as the parent firm of the indebted EVN Telecom will soon transfer all assets and obligations to Viettel. Vietnam and Slovakia established diplomatic relations over 66 years ago (February 2, 1950 - 2016). VietNamNet Bridge – Ready-to-eat tomatoes, and lettuce, grown without soil, and consumed unwashed, are the future in Viet Nam and people will soon have the chance to experience this form of ‘smart agriculture’. This year, this IT-based agricultural project will experiment on growing high-value-added vegetables including medium-sized tomatoes and low-potassium leaf lettuce that will be the source of clean, ready-to-eat food. The potassium content in this kind of lettuce is one-fifth as compared with lettuce grown in any ordinary way making it suitable for diabetics and people who are on a diet. Under the agreement between Fujitsu Limited and FPT Corporation signed in 2014, Fujitsu provided cloud services, equipment, and expertise, and FPT facilitated the spread of information technology in the agricultural sector. A 400sq.m centre, comprising a greenhouse to cultivate tomatoes and a vegetable factory to grow lettuce, was set up at the Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute in Trau Quy Town, Gia Lam District, Ha Noi. "The showcase environment information and video information about the cultivation area can be monitored, not only onsite, but from Japan as well, enabling remote cultivation guidance," Truong Gia Binh, CEO of the FPT Corporation, said.
