VN accelerates overseas tourism promotion

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) will host a range of tourism promotion programmes that will advertise Vietnam’s charm to key tourism markets during the remaining months of this year. The first programme will be held from August 18 to 23 in three cities in China, including Xiamen city in Fujian province, Baotou city in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Nanchang city in Jiangxi province. Each event expects to draw the participation of approximately 350 Chinese travel agencies. Vietnam always eyes China as the leading tourism market as the country has received 2.6 million Chinese visitors in 2016, a year-on-year increase of 51.4%. During the first seven months of this year, nearly 2.2 million Chinese visited Vietnam, up 51% over the same period from last year. The same promotion programmes have also been organised in Australia from August 15 to 18, in Northern European countries from September 13 to 20, and in Japan from September 16 to 22. NDO – It cannot be denied that tourism promotion contributes significantly to the good growth of tourism of Vietnam's tourism in recent years. However, the field is facing many difficulties due to low professionalism, limited funding. Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam has welcomed nearly 7.5 million international visitors, up 29% over the same period last year. To achieve the goal of international visitor growth of at least 30 percent in 2017 set by the Government, Deputy Minister Huynh Vinh Ai of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam suggested the tourism sector mobilise all resources and implement promotion solutions to attract international visitors in the last 5 months. This is the information shared by Mr Ai at the Tourism Promotion Conference in 2017 held by Vietnam National Administration of Tourism recently in Hanoi. Vietnam's tourism industry welcomed more than 10 million international arrivals in 2016 and over 7.2 million international arrivals in the first seven months of 2017. The direct contribution of tourism to GDP in 2016 was approximately 6.9 percent. Mr Ai stressed the role of tourism in the national economy, noting that in many countries, tourism has become a "salvation" for the economy when facing difficulties. In Vietnam, the tourism industry is receiving favourable conditions when the Politburo has identified tourism as the key economic sector of the country. Accordingly, the provincial administration and Vietnam Airlines will increase promotion activities for Hue on their respective communication channels and collaborate to organise national and international tourism, cultural and sports events in Hue city. They are set to work together to support Hue’s investment and tourism promotion activities at travel fairs in Vietnam and other countries. They will also consider raising the frequency of flights, opening new air routes to Hue, and creating mechanisms to support new air routes in their initial stage to increase the number of passengers. NDO – The East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) International Trade, Investment and Tourism Fair opened in the central city of Da Nang on August 11, gathering nearly 200 businesses and organisations from localities nationwide, as well as from foreign countries. This event is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the ASEAN. Approximately 350 booths are showcasing various products and services in the fields of electricity, electronics, IT, furniture, interior decor, handicrafts, hotels and restaurants, as well as consumer products, processed and canned food, textiles, leather shoes, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
