Deputy PM urged removation of difficulties in food safety certification for enterprises

NDO – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam asked the Ministry of Health (MoH) as well as relevant agencies to remove unreasonable and arbitrary requirements concerning the procedures for food safety certification for enterprises.

The Deputy PM made the statement while chairing the dialogue between representatives of business associations, relevant ministries and agencies concerning the shortcomings in food safety management for enterprises in Hanoi on September 8.

At the event, Deputy PM Dam raised questions on whether it is necessary to classify foods that need only to be declared and foods at high risk that need to be certified.

Some provisions on labeling and indicators on metal and microorganism contents have been included in the provisions of the law. Therefore, violating enterprises will be handled according to the regulations, he added.

The Deputy PM asked the relevant agencies to urgently research and complete technical regulations suitable with Vietnamese products.

Leaders from the Ministry of Science and Technology are committed to working closely with the MoH to evaluate and recognise the existing technical regulations and procedures (accounting for around 60%-70% of the regulations on certificating food safety) within 30 days.

In addition, leaders of the MoH affirmed that the ministry would consider the enterprises’ opinions on certification procedures of food safety and hygiene.
