Rice export goal raised to 5.6 million tons this year

Vietnam’s rice exports in the first ten months of 2016 reached 4.2 million tons, earning USD 1.9 billion in revenue, a year-on-year decrease of 21.2 percent in volume and 16.9 percent in value. In October alone, the country earned USD 164 million from shipping 368,000 tons of rice abroad. Vietnam's outbound rice shipments are expected to reach 3.95-3.97 million tons by the end of 2004 as rice companies have so far sold more than 3.93 million tons, according to the Vietnam Food Association. The Vietnamese Food Association announced, on October 27th, that last week domestic businesses exported an additional 79,000 tons of rice, worth more than USD 36.4 million. Within the first three weeks of October, 2008 the country's rice export turnover reached more USD 158.6 million, an equivalence of more than 330,000 tons of rice. VGP - Rice export value earned US$1.58 billion in the first half of this year, down 9.8% from the same period last year. As many as 3.57 million tons of rice were sold abroad in the period, which reflected a 6.8% decrease in comparison with the same period last year. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced on April 1 that the country's rice exports have reached nearly 1.6 million tons in the first quarter of the year,  an increase of 36% compared to the same period last year. Vietnam's government recently requested local businesses limit total exports of rice at a maximum of 3.8 million tons this year to ensure national food security, local newswire VnExpress reported. The limit will be reconsidered during the last quarter of 2005, depending on factual developments, according to a dispatch by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung May 30.
