Vietnam-Cuba: Much Room for Cooperation

Speaking at the meeting with Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Herminio Lopez Diaz, as he ended his term as Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam, Dr Vu Tien Loc, President of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), said: “Through the ambassador’s term, Vietnam-Cuba trade relations have obtained many achievements.”

It is possible to say that the bilateral relationship has developed well in all aspects. Vietnam and Cuba have made concrete and effective cooperation in the fields of education, health, construction and agriculture. The two countries are negotiating new cooperation agreements in areas that each country has strengths and needs.

However, according to Ambassador Herminio Lopez Diaz, the results are still modest, not commensurate with the close political ties, but will definitely be the cornerstone for an increasingly effective bilateral cooperation.

President Vu Tien Loc agreed, the cooperation between the two countries is still very large. “In addition to the traditional areas of cooperation, Vietnam is willing to continue to exchange experience and cooperating with Cuba in other areas such as the media or other important areas. The Vietnamese business community is always looking forward to cooperating with Cuban businesses so that the economic relations between the two countries can be on a par with the good traditional political relations,” said Dr Loc.

Ambassador Herminio Lopez Diaz said that Cuba wished to welcome Vietnamese investors, and is creating a favourable business environment for them. With advantages in biotechnology and medical industries, the ambassador expected that in the coming time, many delegations in this field would pay attention and seek investment partners in Cuba.

Mr Herminio also hoped that VCCI would continue to work as a bridge to cooperate with the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam to further strengthen the contacts between the two countries’ in the domestic market in general and internationally in particular, contributing to raising the total bilateral trade turnover to new heights.
