Vietnamese, Brazilian communist parties strengthen cooperation

NDO – A delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), led by Hoang Binh Quan, member of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for External Relations, paid a working visit to Brazil from September 15-16, following trips to Canada and the United States.

During their stay in Brazil, the Vietnamese delegation held talks with a high-level delegation of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB); met with acting Brazilian Foreign Minister, Marcos Garvao; greeted Joao Batista Lemos, Secretary of the Party Committee of the state of Rio de Janeiro, and Paulo Paim, member of the Workers’ Party (PT) Central Committee and member of the Board of the Federal Senate; in addition to attending and delivering speech at a live broadcast session of the Brazilian Senate.

At the meetings, Quan congratulated on the success of the sixth National Congress of the PT, whilst extending National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan’s invitation to the Brazilian Senate President to visit Vietnam in 2018.

He also briefed the hosts on the Vietnamese situation and discussed measures aiming to further accelerate cooperative relations between the two countries, across the Party, parliament and Government channels in the time ahead.

Leaders of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, Senate, PCdoB and PT spoke highly of the Vietnamese Party delegation’s visit to Brazil, hailing it as a motivation to boost the fine partnership between the CPV and Brazil’s political parties, between the two parliaments as well as between Vietnam and Brazil, as the two countries are celebrating 10 years of the signing of the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement (2007-2017).

The leaders of Brazil’s parties briefed the Vietnamese guests on the situation of Brazil, Brazil’s parties and the region, whilst highly appreciating the socio-economic achievements attained by Vietnam after over 30 years of its Doi Moi (Renewal) policy.

They voiced their wish to boost ties with the CPV in the time ahead across the spheres of exchanging delegations, sharing information and experience and training officials, whilst inviting the CPV to send a delegation to attend the 14th National Congress of the PCdoB, slated for November.

Expressing his delight at the fine developments of Vietnam-Brazil relations over the past years, the leader of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry discussed with Hoang Binh Quan on specific measures aiming to further facilitate bilateral relations. He also agreed on Vietnam’s recommendations in regards to the enhancement of political ties between the two countries via the promotion of cooperation mechanisms, especially the Joint Committee mechanism, and the exchange of high-level delegations.

Both sides agreed to continue coordinating and supporting each other at international multilateral forums, whilst accelerating bilateral economic-trae-investment relations, especially in the fields which are complimentary to each other, such as wind energy, agriculture, fisheries, the aviation industry, tourism, sports and culture, striving towards US$10 billion in two-way trade in 2020.
