Two dead in market fire in southern Vietnam

A huge fire consumed part of a market early on Tuesday in Vietnam’s southernmost province, killing two people. The blaze occurred at around 2:15 am at Cha La Market in Tran Phan Commune, Dam Doi District, Ca Mau Province, which is the southern tip of the country. At this time, people working at the place spotted flames from the nearby house of a 35-year-old man named Tra Thai Hoang, which rapidly spread to several neighboring buildings. Local firefighters and police instantly arrived at the scene. It took them about half an hour to extinguish the fire. Hoang and his wife died in the fire while four houses at the market have been completely destroyed, causing an estimated loss of VND4.8 billion (US$176,000). Nguyen Tien Hai, chairman of the Ca Mau People’s Committee, and other local governmental bodies have offered their condolences to the victims’ family, and given them VND25 million ($1,000) in urgent support. Other families affected by the blaze have also received financial help. The cause is being probed by police. Like us on Facebook  or  follow us on Twitter  to get the latest news about Vietnam!
