I know it very well. As a professional speaker and training specialist in communication for 20 years, but when a customer requesting a rare opportunity to talk about customer service to more than 2,000 financial professionals, I blurted out “Oh no”, the words make myself be surprised.

Is subject inappropriate? No, I can talk about customer service both during sleeping. Is subject of listener inappropriate? No, I had a lot of experience working with financial professionals. Is time in a hurry?. No, I have 6 months to prepare.

So what is the reason? The problem is that I only get used to speeching infront of several dozen to several hundred listeners, and the first thought about talking in front of thousands of people made me feel stuffy. I can not!

Of course, in the end I accepted the suggestion, and get feedback very great about the talk. And the most important thing I got from that experience was Mark Twain, he was right: Everyone has their own stress thing when speaking to the crowd.

It isn’t important for you to speech in front of 2 or 2.000 people: When you feel flutter, you need to have tactics to get out of and keep yourself on stage confidently and professionally. I don’t know about you, but for myself, tips, “imagining the listener without clothes” has no effect. Picture a director without dressing standing in front and my full of costume didn’t not make me feel more confident.In a film was nominated for an Oscar, “Broadcast News” , the main character is a quavering reporter when standing in front of the camera wished: “The world is wonderful if insecurity and desperation made us become more attractive”. Exercise in the morning before speeching

I usually start by statement of Mark Twain above.

You worry it will not polite? Save greeting and thanks for the next word, when you started, the audience was also impressed with an interesting opening than they expect.

Be prepared for a dialogue rather than a monologue

What will you choose which option: do a monologue before a person group and join in the dialogue? You’ll choose the second project, and so do audience. Most of us will choose to participate in dialogue rather than retaining the reviews and our contribution to the topic. Let’s create the opportunity for listeners to share roles in the presentation rather than try to remember them and talk content prepared. Make presentations in about 30 seconds or 1 minute, then asked listener the question encouraged answer, poll, or watch videos and refer to feedback.

That will help your listeners have the opportunity to participate in and remember better, and help you have resting time, drink water, review the notes and prepare content to speech and  following dialog.
