The Vietnam Chess Federation (VCF) on Thursday inked four-year sponsorship contracts worth US$200,000 with the country's two best chess players, Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son. The 20-year-old Liem, ranked 28th in the world, will receive $150,000 and 21-year-old Son, ranked 83rd, will get the remaining $50,000. The contract will take effect on the first of January, 2012. Liem will receive $30,000 in the first year, $35,000 in the second and $40,000 and $45,000 in the third and fourth years. A workshop on promotion of trade and investment in Vietnam was held in the UK port city of Liverpool on Sept. 20. The 1st Dragon Capital Vietnam Chess Open came to an end on September 1 after six days of competitions. The Vietnam Chess Federation on May 16 signed an agreement with FPT, under which the two sides will co-organise an annual chess event, namely FPT World Great Master Star tournament for International Great Masters. The first tournament will be organised in September 2008 and it may become an official event in the World Chess Confederation's competition system. The 40th World Chess Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey concluded on September 9th (local time) after a two-week long competition with the participation of players from 158 nations and territories.
