Over 11.6 million foreign tourists come to Vietnam in eleven months

The number of foreign tourists to Vietnam in the first ten months of 2011 reached an estimated 4.83 million, an increase of 15.8 percent on last year, reported the Vietnam National Tourism Administration.  In October, the country attracted more than 518,000 foreign tourist arrivals, up more than 80 percent from October last year.  Over the past ten months, more than 4 million foreign tourists came to Vietnam by plane, a year-on-year rise of 20.8 percent. In the first eight months of 2011, nearly 4 million foreign tourists arrived in Vietnam, a year-on-year increase of 18.4 percent, reported the Vietnam National Tourism Administration.  In August 2011, Vietnam attracted nearly 490,000 foreign tourist arrivals, up 14.5 percent compared to the same month last year.  So far this year, almost all foreign markets of Vietnam tourism have seen year-on-year increases. The General Statistics Office (GSO) of Vietnam reported that the number of foreign tourists to Vietnam reached more than 1.1 million arrivals in the first two months of 2011, a year on year increase of 19.5%. Of these, nearly 626,000 arrivals came Vietnam for travel and recreation, up more than 14%; those for business were 160,000 arrivals, up 14% and for visiting relatives reached 196,000 arrivals, up nearly 5.3%. Vietnam greeted nearly 525,300 foreign visitors in August 2012, bringing the figure for the first eight months of the year to more than 4.38 million, a year-on-year increase of 9.4 percent, reported the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism. Over the past eight months, the number of tourists coming Vietnam by sea reached more than 46,600, recording the largest growth with a year-on-year rise of 74.7 percent. In July, the number of foreign tourists visiting Vietnam reached an estimated 460,000; raising the figure for the first seven months this year to more than 3.42 million – representing a year-on-year increase of 17.3 percent. Over the past seven months, the number of foreign tourists arriving in Vietnam by air increased by 22.6 percent from the same period last year. The Vietnam National Tourism Administration reported that more than 2.5 million foreign tourist arrivals visited Vietnam in the first five months of 2011, a year-on-year increase of 18 percent. Countries and territories seeing an increase in the number of tourists to Vietnam from the same period last year were China with 546,900 arrivals, up 49.6 percent, the Republic of Korea with 222,400 arrivals, up 2.5 percent and Japan with 204,200 arrivals, up 12.8 percent. {mosimage}HCM City, in the first eleven months of this year, welcomed more than 1.8 million foreign tourists, an increase of 29 percent compared to the same period last year and equivalent to 101 percent of the 2005 target. Over 2.16 million foreign tourist arrivals visited Ho Chi Minh city in the first half of 2015, a year-on-year rise of 3%, reported the Municipal People’s Committee on June 24th.   With this, the foreigner arrivals to Ho Chi Minh city fulfilled 46% of the city’s year’s plan of welcoming 4.7 million arrivals.
