Revolution contributors to receive Tet gifts

The Vietnam Blind Association (VBA) haspresented 1,717 Tet gifts, worth over 515 million VND, sourced fromState President Nguyen Minh Triet’s donation, to the blind nationwide. Accordingly, each province out of 44 targeted provinces will receive 30 to 50 gifts, each worth 300,000 VND. The provinces have selected VBA’s members, who are beneficiaries ofsocial welfare or living in difficult circumstances to receive thegifts. Meanwhile, students at the Luong The Vinh high school in HCM City have mobilised VND650 million for poor students in flood-stricken areas.Under the “Tet for the Poor” programme, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee has allocated VND172 million to buy Tet gifts for the poor. The HQ 936 cargo ship on Jan.12 anchored at Truong Sa archipelago’s An Bang island, carrying Tet gifts for the garrisons. Thisis the final destination of a journey conducted by brigade No. 146 ofthe Naval Command Zone D, to visit and present Tet gifts to soldiers onseven islands in the southern part of Truong Sa archipelago. The gifts included cookies, sugar, milk, wine, beer, tea and seasoning glutamate, worth more than VND30 million. The provincial People’s Committee has called on agencies and organisations in Khanh Hoa to donate commodities and money to Truong Sa islanders. Gifts will be shipped to Truong Sa in mid January. Representatives from the Government Office and Vietnam Red Cross accompanied the Deputy PM.Bac Lieu province has spent VND22 billion from its budget assisting its poor during the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday. Each household receives between VND300,000–400,000 in aid, depending their classified poverty level.
