Under the MOU, Viettel will focus on specific areas such as healthcare, education, public administration and tourism to build the “Smart City” model coupled with the city of cultural festivals. According to Viettel’s officials, Phu Tho is the 8th province in which Viettel has signed a deal on building the “Smart City” model. At the signing ceremony Leaders of Phu Tho province hoped that the newly signed MOU would help the province boost the application and development of information technology across the province, contributing to promoting a knowledge economy and information society in the locality, improving its competitiveness in international integration, and accelerating local industrialization and modernization while ensuring fast and sustainable growth. Over the past time, Viettel has successfully implemented its cooperation programs on telecommunications services and information technology applications in the province. Specifically, it helped the local health sector to link data among 305 healthcare facilities, built internet-based systems to inspect and manage medical insurance at all provincial healthcare facilities, and compiled electronic medical files for about 30,800 people in Yen Lap district. It also installed 1,437 free FTTH Edu cable lines for 916 local schools.
