The Hanoitimes – Growth rate of the agriculture sector this year was planned at least 3 percent, with export turnover contributing some US$40 billion, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Among the total export value, agriculture products will make up more than US$21 billion, seafood with some US$9 billion, forestry products with over US$8.5 billion and US$1.5 billion from others. According to the ministry, 2018 is considered an important year for the sector in particular and for the entire country in general as it takes a key role in helping the country meet targets set in the nation’s five-year plan of 2016-2020. Seafood exports are expected to earn Vietnam some US$9 billion this year In order to achieve the above targets, the ministry will continue refining mechanisms to develop socialism-oriented market economy in agriculture, submit a draft Law on Cultivation, a draft Law on Animal Husbandry, amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, raising public awareness of Law on Irrigation, Law on Forestry, and revised Law on Fisheries and relevant laws, ordinances and resolutions. It will also continue improving the business climate by cutting administrative procedures, building e-government with a focus on online public services, one-stop shop mechanism for customs clearance. Vietnam will strive to achieve an agricultural economic growth rate of 9-11 percent in 2010, said Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat at a conference on rural development in northern provinces held in Hanoi on June 7. Participants at the conference reported that during the 2000-2005 period, the average agricultural economic growth rate reached approximately 5 percent annually. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Cao Duc Phat has set a target of earning US$6 billion from exports of agro-forestry products in 2006, US$200 million more than in 2005. To achieve the target, the minister has instructed localities to allocate 2 million ha of forests to farmers for protection and 1.2 million ha for re-afforestation. Vietnam is expected to earn a total export revenue of US$84.5-US$85.5 billion in 2011, announced the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) at a conference in Hanoi on July 4. The figure represents a year-on-year increase of 17-18.4 percent, or US$6.1 billion more than the year’s target set by the National Assembly (NA).
