APG marine fiber optic cable to be fixed on January 7

Illustrative image (Source: VNPT) Hanoi (VNA) – Repair work on theAsia-America Gateway (AAG)  and Asia Pacific Gateway (APG) submarine fiber optic cable lines has been  basically completed, said a representativefrom the Ministry of Information and Communications. The two submarine cable systems suffered problems and were shutdown nearly two weeks ago.Accordingto Nguyen Duc Trung, General Director of the ministry’s Telecommunication Departmentsaid his agency has directed relevant enterprises to swiftly overcome theproblem. The repair ship could access thewaters where the damaged cables are located, he said. The construction contract was signed in Beijing on December 21 between Vietnam Telecom International (VTI) and its partners Chungwa Telecom from China, the KT Corporation from the Republic of Korea, and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation from Japan.The cable system will have a total capacity of 54.8Tbps transferring from 40Gbps optical switching technology.By deploying the digital coherent detection (DCD) and optical add-drop multiplexing (OADM) technologies, APG enables the future system to be upgraded to 100Gbps to meet the ever increasing data traffic in the region's mobile phone and internet markets. The Japanese economic daily of Nikkei reported that the 153-hectare industrial park in Vietnam's third-largest city that houses 53 companies, including Yazaki Corp., Toyoda Gosei Co. and Oji Paper Co., will be expanded to accommodate around 100 in the near future. NTT East will lay a total of 15km of cable there at a projected cost of several tens of millions of yen. VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) said that at 11.26pm on September 15, the AAG international fiber-optic cable system from Vietnam to Hong Kong and the United States broke. The incident occurred in the waters near Hong Kong (China). Yesterday, the last welds of two branches to Hong Kong and Singapore of the AAG cable were completed.At 6am on August 24, Internet connection was recovered, a CMC Telecom representative said.The repair schedule of AAG cable changed many times. Last week, AAG cable management unit announced that the repair would finish on August 24, three days longer than the original plan. On August 22, the unit said the repair wouldbe completed on August 25, one day later due to the impact of typhoon Dianmu. However, the typhoon did not affect the repair, so the AAG cable was fixed under last week's schedule.The…...
