NDO – Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has asked the southern province of Ca Mau to raise its competitiveness, beef up its administrative reform, and create the most favourable conditions for businesses in a bid to make the locality more attractive for domestic and foreign investors. Addressing a working session with the provincial leaders on January 13, he reminded those present that Ca Mau was listed in a low group in the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) ranking in 2016 as the province ranked 54 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide; thus he called for more drastic measures and practical actions to improve the index. He asked the provincial authorities to apply advanced technology in production, and attach greater priority on developing agriculture, as well as shrimp breeding, growing and processing. The province was requested to be more active in combating natural disasters and restructuring its agricultural production in order to adapt to climate change and saline intrusion. With the advantage of having 254 km of coast line and more than 80,000 square km of fishing ground, the province owns huge potential to develop the marine economy, he emphasised. According to a report released by the provincial authorities, in 2017, Ca Mau posted a gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth rate of 7% and collected VND4.2 trillion (US$184.8 million) in budget collection. The plan includes the expansion of offshore fishing fleets, thedevelopment of fishery logistics services and the promotion of maritimetourism. The province is accelerating the implementation ofpolicies under Government Resolution 67/2014/ND-CP, including supportingfishermen in building high-capacity, iron-coated vessels designed foroffshore fishing. In parallel with sea exploitation, Ca Mauwill focus on developing fishery logistics services, including serviceboats to deliver goods and materials from the mainland to fishingvessels at sea.
