Nguyen Khanh Tung, Director of the city’s Centre for Investment, Trade Promotion and Exhibition, said that work will start on an ICT Innovation centre developed by Brainworks Company. The city will hold a trade and investment promotion conference in Japan’s Hyogo prefecture, a meeting with Japanese investors in Hanoi and a dialogue with Japanese firms. Tung said that in April 2018, Can Tho will kick off a model farm project in the city as a joint effort of Can Tho College for Economy and Technology and Japan’s VAIO Company with the aim of training high quality agriculture experts for Can Tho. A Vietnam-Japan industrial park will also be constructed, he added. Truong Quang Hoai Nam, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho, said many Japanese investors are interested in Vietnam but the number coming to the city remained modes. Therefore, Can Tho needs to make a breakthrough in attracting Japanese investments, he stressed. According to the Can Tho Centre for Investment, Trade Promotion and Exhibition, by the end of 2017, the city accommodated 77 Japanese-invested projects worth US$656 million. Its export and service revenue in the year hit US$1.77 billion, exceeding the city’s plan by 5.9% and representing a growth of 13.9% year on year.
A workshop was held in the northern province of Bac Ninh on March 21 to attract Japanese investment in tourism. Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Tien Nhuong described the locality as one of the most dynamic economies in the country, with unique culture and traditional craft villages.
