Celebrated Japanese pianist to perform in Hanoi

He will entertain concertgoers with performances of famous pieces such as the overture to Leonard Bernstein’s operetta Candide, and Waltzing Cat and Jazz Pizzicato by Leroy Anderson.The concert will also attract the participation of conductor Honna Tetsuji, saxophonist Quyen Van Minh, and the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra.Born in 1942, Yamashita is a name familiar to many prestigious international jazz festivals and stages. In 1988 he formed the “New York Trio” and six years later he was invited to play at the ceremony marking 50 years of the famous American jazz label Verve Records, held at Carnegie Hall. Yamashita has composed music for many Japanese films and in 2003 he was awarded the Imperial Medal of Honour by the Japanese government for his contributions to the arts and academia.
