The construction leads to an average area of 25.6 square metres per capita, and an expected area of 26.3 square metres per capital by 2020. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on December 19 advised Hanoi to mobilise resources to develop social housing and housing for people who rendered services to the country, as well as workers, students and civil servants. The Ministry of Construction has overviewed the business results of the first half of 2009, reporting that a total 22 million new square metres of houses were developed in the six-month period, with 11.4 million square metres in urban areas. The total housing space in the country as of last month was one billion square meters, with an average of 12.2 square meters per capita. Of the total, urban areas account for 320.7 million square metres and rural areas 737.6 million square metres. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday called on Ha Noi authorities to put stronger focus on developing social housing during a meeting to assess the frozen real-estate market. The meeting followed a similar one with HCM City authorities on Tuesday. Both were in preparation for a Government plan to issue a resolution to help the struggling market.
