Orphan girl with cancer calls for help

An 11th grader in Can Tho City who is struggling from cancer is calling for financial support to cover hospital charges. To Kim Thy struggling from cancer To Kim Thy is living in An Hoa Ward, Ninh Kieu District. Her father abandoned them when she was less than one year old. In 2010, her mother, Tran Thi Kim Chi, was diagnosed with Peutz–Jeghers syndrome, a genetic disorder that has noncancerous growths called hamartomatous polyps in the gastrointestinal tract and a greatly increased risk of developing certain types of cancer. Thy’s mother had to quit her jobs to collect scraps. However, Chi’s health deteriorated quickly and she was hospitalised. “This is the scariest moment of my life. I was also diagnosed with Peutz–Jeghers syndrome when my mother was in hospital. I wanted to drop out from school but my friends, teachers and my mother encouraged me to keep studying,” Thy said. In 2013, Thy underwent an operation to remove a liver tumour. Her mother borrowed from everywhere to admit Thy to HCM City’s Oncology Hospital. Unfortunately, the tumour grew back and they had to return to HCM City. In 2016, Thy’s was diagnosed with ovarian cancer while her mother was hospitalised for her tumour already spread to her brain.
