(Photo: baotintuc.vn)During a recent meeting on the operations of Ho Chi Minh city’s export processing and industrial zones in 2017 and the work in 2018, Tran Cong Khanh, Head of Labor Department under the city Export Processing and Industrial Zones Authority (HEPZA), said that of the capital, some VND1.2 billion will be used to support workers with transport tickets for going home for Tet, VND46 billion for Tet presents, and some VND20.6 billion for year-end programs. This year, some 6,000 tickets have been mobilised and are expected to be distributed on January 27th. Additionally, HEPZA will give 3,000 presents for workers who lost jobs due to narrow production, business dissolution or the running away of businesses’ owners Trade fairs and year-end programs will also be held for workers, especially for those who do not return home for Tet. According to HEPZA, among 400 businesses reporting Tet bonuses, domestic businesses give total Tet bonuses of VND950 million each at maximum, while this figure in foreign-invested businesses is VND359 million. A majority of laborers receive one month of salary for Tet bonus, at VND6.2 million per person in domestic businesses and some VND7.8 million in foreign-invested businesses./. Compiled by BTA
The Ho Chi Minh City Labor Union is working with provincial labor unions and company labor unions help and workers who have lost their jobs because of the global economic slowdown. Lan Van Danh, deputy of chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Labor Union, said 3,567 people made redundant had already been placed in new jobs. Malaysian businesses had invested 5.8 billion USD in 169 projects in Ho Chi Minh City by June, becoming the largest foreign investor in Vietnam's southern economic hub. Ho Chi Minh City decided to invest 50 billion VND from the state budget for the city Technology and Science Development Fund which is scheduled to be operated at the end of this month.
