President Quang, who is also VRCS Honorary President, made the request while addressing an arts programme held in Hanoi on January 7 as part of the ‘Bring Tet for the Poor and Agent Orange/ Dioxin Victims’ campaign. The State leader praised the VRCS for its efforts and achievements in supporting the life of the poor, the elderly in areas affected by natural disasters, war victims, victims of AO/ Dioxin, people with disabilities, orphans, and vulnerable groups across the country. The Society was also applauded for connecting organisations, benefactors at home and abroad, and people from all walks of life and encouraging their participation in humanitarian activities. The ‘Bring Tet for the Poor and Agent Orange/ Dioxin Victims’ campaign was held annually by the VRVS since 1999 with the aim of raising funds for the targeted groups ahead of the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival. Over the past five years, nearly 10 million Tet gifts worth a total of over VND3.5 trillion (US$152 billion) were raised for the campaign, helping the disadvantaged enjoy a warm and happy Tet holiday. More than VND110 billion (US$4.8 million) was raised and nearly 2 million Tet gifts were committed by collectives, individuals and businesses at last night event.
