Vietnamese living overseas sent home $2.5 billion to Ho Chi Minh City in the first seven months of 2016, an increase of 4.16 percent compared to the same period last year. From 2011 to 2015, money transferred from overseas Vietnamese to Ho Chi Minh City rose on avarage by 10 to 12 percent per year.
