Son La: work starts on agriculture processing plant

Construction of a hydroelectric powerplant, Stung Tatai, with a designed capacity of 338 MW, broke ground inKoh Kong province, Cambodia. The plant, the largestof its kind in Cambodia, will be built at a cost of 540 million USD bythe Chinese Heavy Machinery Manufacturing Group. The province has been planting these trees since 2000 on a trial basis, and now has 100 ha on which macadamia is grown, mainly in the districts of Van Ho, Moc Chau, Mai Son and Thuan Chau, as well as Son La city.Provincial authorities said that some macadamia planting models have given higher yields than others. SƠN LA — Sơn La police have arrested 15 people, mostly officials, for alleged breaches in paying land clearance compensation for the Sơn La hydropower plant, the largest dam in the country. Two others have been placed under house arrest. The Son La Party Committee’s Publicity and Education Commission held a press conference on Sunday afternoon to officially announce investigations against several local officials, including a department director and two department deputy directors. Mr Triet visited the construction site of the Son La hydro-electric power plant where investors, contractors and workers are working at full steam to put the first generator into operation in 2010, two years ahead of schedule.
