This is part of a bilateral agreement signed on Wednesday by Nguyen Duc Thanh, chairman of the Vietnam Cashew Association, and Veng Sakhon, Cambodia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Under the agreement, the association will help Cambodian side to promote production, preservation and trade of cashew in Cambodia and access market, in addition to transferring post-harvest technology, investing and developing cashew in 10 provinces of Cambodia. Cambodia currently has more than 100,000ha under cashew cultivation, with a total output of more than 100,000 tonnes of crude cashew nuts, a majority of which is exported to Viet Nam. With abundant land funds, Cambodia is aiming to bring 500,000-600,000ha under cashew cultivation to produce one million tonne of cashew nuts in the next 10 years.
