Vietnam started the construction of a political theory school for the Lao People’s Army (LPA) in Xaysettha district of Vientiane, on January 19. Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Vilay Lakhamphong, Deputy Defence Minister and Director of the General Department of Politics of the Lao People’s Army, expressed his thank for the Vietnamese Party, State and Defence Ministry. According to him, the construction of this school is essential to develop the LPA into a politically-strong army, and enhance its capacity in training political officials, thus helping the LPA fulfill the mission assigned by the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Lao State and people. Investment for the first phase of the project is over USD6 million (VND137 billion)
The construction of a high school in Luang Namtha town in the Lao province of Luang Namtha started on December 14. The project with a total investment of 86 billion VND, mostly from Vietnamese non-refundable aid, is being carried out by Vietnam's northern province of Vinh Phuc. Luang Namtha province contributed 10 billion VND. The new 3-ha school will have a four storey building with 40 classrooms for 2,000 students, an assembly room, a two storey office building and a library. A ground-breaking ceremony for the Lao National Academy for Politics and Public Administration (LNA) project was held in Laos capital city of Vientiane on December 9. The project is being jointly carried out by the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration (HCMA) and the LNA. The building is being built on an area of 2,020 sq.m at a total cost of 104 billion VND, from non-refundable aid provided by the Vietnamese government. The VND57.2 billion project will have a 110m antenna tower, a 5kw TV-transmitter and a 10kw FM transmitter built on an area of 11,628m2.The funding has been sourced from the Vietnamese government’s non-refundable aid for Lao in the 2006-2010 period.The project is scheduled to finish in June this year.Vietnam has previously helped Lao to build a similar station in the southern province of Champasak....
