Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi have discussed measures to enhance the two nations’ relationship, as part of the former’s visit to India from January 24 to January 26. PM Phuc, along with his wife and a delegation of high-ranking Vietnamese officials, arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday evening in order to prepare for his participation in the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit on Thursday. According to the Vietnam News Agency, a conversation between PM Phuc and his Indian counterpart, PM Modi, was organized later that day. During the talk, the two leaders expressed their delight at the strong development of bilateral ties since the establishment of comprehensive strategic partnership in September 2016. They agreed to further improve the two countries’ relationship by maintaining all-level visits and exchanges and to intensify the trustworthy and effective collaboration in defense and security. Both governments will provide favorable conditions in order to boost their economic cooperation. They will also propose breakthrough measures to raise bilateral trade turnover to US$15 billion by 2020. PM Phuc wished that India would continue assisting Vietnam in training high-quality human resources, as well as in technology transfer and credit supply in multiple fields. President’s visit dominates Russian headlines The agreement was reached by President Truong Tan Sang and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during their talks in the Russian city of Sochi on July 27.
