Vietnam, Mongolia look towards deeper relations

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan  (R) and her Mongolian counterpart Miyegombo Enkhbold (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – National AssemblyChairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and her Mongolian counterpart Miyegombo Enkhboldhave agreed to promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation in politics andsecurity-defence, towards further deepening bilateral ties. The top legislators of Vietnam and Mongolia held talks in Hanoi on January 22following a grand welcome ceremony for Miyegombo Enkhbold and a high-leveldelegation of the Mongolian parliament, who are in Hanoi for an official visitfrom January 20-23. The two legislative leaders stressed the need to maintainmutual visits and meetings between the two countries’ senior leaders, sayingthat these activities are necessary to define major directions for pushingforward the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Mongolia. The two sides pledged to effectively implement agreements signed in the fieldsof diplomacy and security-defence; increase dialogues, information andexperience sharing at all levels; join hands in fighting crimes; enhancepartnership in defence industry, logistics and military medicine; andaccelerate negotiations of agreements on criminal extradition andthe transferof convicted persons. Speaking highly of Mongolia’s decision to allow Vietnamese officers toparticipate in the Khaan Quest’ international peacekeeping exercise, NA ChairwomanNgan affirmed Vietnam is willing to continue sending officers to the exercise whilereceiving Mongolian officers to Vietnam for learning Vietnamese language. She suggested the two sides maintain political consultation meetings betweentheir Ministries of Foreign Affairs in 2018.
